toilet (direct object marker) cleanly (indirect object marker (among other uses)) use (command form) humbly receive (roughly), thanks very much.
“Humbly receive” isn’t exactly right, but it’s one of the different formal registers we don’t really have in English.
It doesn’t say that in Japanese lol. I guess this means the Westerner urinators are the ones that need the extra instruction. In Japanese it just says “thanks for keeping the restroom clean”
Japanese people are culturally conditioned to respond well to politeness and obligation.
Anglos living in Japan are often some flavour of weeaboo.

I am always surprised at work how people manage to get piss not only on the divider but also on top of the urinal. Like that’s the most wacky shit ever to me. lol
In my younger years, as a tall fella, the shake off procedure would sometimes cause some drops to land on urinal tops. Now, as time inexorably passes on, I piss with more control.
That’s why I sit. I’ll tell you, once you get in your late thirties. Things change.

Moral reminders can apparently be very effective. I’m reminded of a couple of experiments performed at a university on the university students in a lab where they tested what changes would make students cheat more or less.
In one experiment, university students were asked to sign a copy of the school’s honor code before a test, and cheating went down. This, despite the fact that that particular university didn’t have an official honor code.
Another example was that students were given one of two tasks before taking a test. In one task, they were asked to recall up to 10 book titles. In the other task, they were asked to recall as many of the 10 commandments as possible. The ones who were asked to recall the 10 commandments cheated less, regardless of their religious beliefs.
So, I suspect that this sign does achieve its intended purpose, to get English speakers to be more careful when peeing.

All joking aside, drinking more water is genuinely the most effective way to prevent kidney stones. Everyone should drink more water.
Also there’s something about high concentrations of caffeine and sugar ingested at the same time that correlates with higher occurrences of kidney stones, with energy drinks being the worst offenders.
It also has something to do with water quality I presume, as I was once in a city I learned had the highest incidence of kidney stones in the country, supposedly.
For me it was a combination of working in a factory at 135F degrees, and also drinking as much gatoraid as you can imagine you’d want. I’d buy the 24 pack of 32oz bottles. That would last 1-2 days.
Apperently Gatoraid is also very high in salt.
Not 6, but 2-3 is the universal experience.
