I remember a while ago an American politician said, “God is non-binary”, which predictably drew attacks from conservatives.

The Catholics I know (non American here) just kinda shrugged it off. “He’s probably trolling, but not exactly wrong”, and pointed me to the cathecism.

We ought therefore to recall that God transcends the human distinction between the sexes. He is neither man nor woman: he is God. He also transcends human fatherhood and motherhood.

In the same document they also simply use standard “he/him”, nothing like what the meme suggested. The language of “Father”, is used to invoke the image of a parent and figure of authority.

Without taking away all the unspeakably horrible things the church has done, as far as theology goes that seems… reasonable?

Aquinas was a big factor and from what I recall and defines his God as beyond these distinctions, incorporeal…but also has plenty hardcore misogyny as core theology.

Jesus as Mother an interesting work in the area https://archive.org/details/jesusasmotherstu0000bynu

Post Luther-Calvin-Baur-Renan and onto Bart Erhman & co Christology goes full bro science and it moves to a mundane flesh adult Jesus & St Saul derived from the Markan scripture and 7 Catholic letters as a new New Testament: repeating what they accuse Marcion of in 140CE for lolz.

That’s how catholicism goes a lot of fhe time. Reasonable, reasonable, ok but why can’t women be priests though, oh that’s a dumb as fuck reason

You’d think the whole nonbinary god would make them cool with trans people, but nope
