They are right; The United states followed by Israel are the biggest existential threat to the world, and something has to be urgently done about these rogue nazi states that are armed to the teeth and actively trying to spiral the world into self extintion.

‘Respondents are asked in an open-text answer which country they see as the greatest threat to the world. This gives people the chance to choose whichever country comes to mind. 32,133 responses are then classified with large language models to identify each country named.’

So instead of an actual menu with the actual countries??

But what if they said Taiwan/Palestine, which are not countries by some definitions but might be a persons first choice?

By having an LLM interpret natural language answers, we have eliminated that bias without introducing any new ones! /s

I’m gonna be honest here, I’m not sure about the legitimacy of this. As an American I agree we’re probably first with Captain dip shit in charge. That being said, you’re telling me Japan was the only country that voted for China, despite them jerking off on the coast to invade Taiwan and them trying to claim all the ocean between them and Australia? While basically terrorizing all the island nations around them?

Yeah, I don’t buy that part.

Projection. The US does untold damage to the Caribbean islands, primarily to Cuba, in ways that SEA can’t even begin to imagine.

you’re telling me Japan was the only country that voted for China

Japan is extremely racist towards the Chinese, Japanese people don’t learn about the atrocities committed against Chinese civilians in WW2.

the only country that voted for China, despite them jerking off on the coast to invade Taiwan

Taiwan has US military bases threatening China. China hasn’t been involved in war since about 50 years ago, it’s safe to assume they won’t be starting a war now, unlike the US, whose last war was started a few months ago and will bring about a huge fossil fuel crisis worldwide.

It’s a government alliance/colonial control arrangement. People are the ones being surveyed and have clearer picture. IT would be interesting to see how close Russophobia propagandized EU countries are close to the correct answer.

Surprised India and Pakistan didn’t say eachother. Also surprised South Korea didn’t say North Korea. And is Taiwan treated as a separate state in this data set or not?

I can’t find the original data set but these results don’t match what I found in a quick google search.

If you’re not directly affected by the conflict, I assume the US as a global power does seem like a bigger threat to the world at large. The respective neighbours are a local problem, to be sure, but not strictly global. That said…

And is Taiwan treated as a separate state in this data set or not?

I suspect not. They’d likely be biased in favour of the US.

Im also a bit surprised by this survey. While I personally believe that the US is the biggest threat to the world, I found it hard to believe that other Filipinos would not say its China. The whole country is so drunk on western propaganda. There’s even that news recently here about launching a Tomahawk missile and has been praised by virtually almost everyone even by some academics. The US is highly favored here. Even with the Iran war and the energy crisis, a lot of Filipinos put the blame only on Trump instead of the whole American imperial machinery.

The US murdered over a million people in the Philippines during its turn at colonization after the Spanish.

China shouldn’t deprive fishermen of their livelihood, but since we’re comparing them to the US it’s clear which is worse.

Germany murdered many millions of people in France and Poland during its two “yay blood and iron; let’s conquer the world and get the word genocide invented” attempts.

Russia shouldn’t be waging a war of conquest on Ukraine, but since we’re comparing them to Germany, it’s clear which is worse

Germany is a has-been country that basically just helps Israel commit genocide, but not really much else.

The US didn’t exactly ever stop killing millions of people. They just hop country to country, Philippines to Korea to Indonesia to Vietnam to Iraq, a million here and a million there, spreading death and destruction all around the world. Those are just the big ones, if we start including the tens and hundreds of thousands there’s Chile, Argentina, Libya, Syria, Afghanistan, Gaza, and on and on.

Remember, we’re talking about what country is the biggest threat to the world. It’s not China and it’s not Russia.

But, this poll still shows that people in the Philippines still see the US as the greater threat? Despite China’s more recent spat in the South China Sea, despite the propaganda, the Philippines still sees the US as the greatest threat to the world. Japan is the only country that sees China as a threat, which mostly stems from imperial humiliation at China defeating Japanese occupation.

It’s not logical, though, it actually reveals an illogical bias. Local disputes over fishing and territory simply aren’t as big a threat to the world as the warmongering empire that killed a million Filipinos and is currently plunging the world into an energy crisis.

I think this conflict will be resolved peacefully because neither country benefits from open conflict. China doesn’t really do war.

Besides, the US-caused energy crisis is going to do more to deprive Philippine fishermen of their livelihoods than China ever has.

No, but being unable to fuel vessels and trucks after the pumps run dry will cause systemic problems that everyone will feel. An energy crisis hurts all fishers in all of their territorial waters, and then on top of that hurts literally every single person in the country. It’s not just that there are going to be boats that can’t even go out to sea because they aren’t able to get fuel, there are going to be people that can’t do any of their jobs in any part of the country. This is the prelude to an economic collapse.

The US is the biggest threat to the world and everyone in the world knows it, including people in the Philippines.
