As absurdly proprietary as Apple‘s hardware is, they’ve never explicitly done anything to block others from running different software on it. Yes, it is difficult to do so under certain circumstances, for all sorts of weird proprietary, Apple reasons, but to explicitly go out of their way to block it? Certainly never on their computers.

Although they do completely lock out their EFI and boot controllers, but they say that strictly a matter of preserving system security or whatever, and that’s believable. Inconvenient, but because that is also extremely proprietary, I believe them.

After all, I have fedora running on a 14 year-old iMac, and it was surprisingly easy to install. The only issues I had related to a dead internal display, but I would imagine I would also have similar problems with any other all-in-one computer with a dead internal display.

This reminds me of when Ultima Underworld first came out in 1992, and it came with a map of the first level printed on a piece of fabric, and it looked hand-drawn. I was 13, and I have never played a complicated adventure game like that before, so it was extremely extremely helpful in figuring out how the game worked and how to visualize the levels of the game moving forward. Plus, as the character had a map just like that one, it really helped with the immersion.

Considering that, 34 years later, it is still resonating this strongly in my memory, I’m definitely in favor of maps being included in fantasy stories.

Well, it has limited usefulness, but you can work within certain constraints and do it in batches for certain shows. I don’t know if you’re aware of this, but with shows like Doctor Who, it will just play specials. If you let it play from episode to episode… Specials will play in order as they’re supposed to air, without any interference. I guess it’s just a Plex feature. no need to actually create a playlist. Unless you want to include torchwood, Sarah Jane adventures, etc…

Anyway, if you do a search for Star Trek, for example, and then sort the search results by air date, you can, for example, select all of Star Trek the next generation, Deep Space 9, and Voyager, and add that to a playlist after you have added enterprise, then the original series, then the animated series individually by series. You will have to add the movies in manually to that playlist, if you want the films in the playlist as well. I don’t think there were any shows after that whose seasons overlapped. Maybe a season or two of lower decks and strange new worlds, but I don’t thinks so.

This doesn’t work for Star Wars stuff because, although nothing overlaps (except for the Mandalorian and book of Boba Fett), there are several films that take place in between seasons of certain TV shows, and air date order is not the same as chronological order. All that Star Wars stuff is insanely all over the place as far as timeline.

Same with the MCU stuff. Air date and proper chronology are not the same, so it’s all mixed up.

Sorry, it’s been a while since I had to figure it out, since I just have one big master playlist for all of Stargate in broadcast order, and it sort of interleaves season 8 of SG1 with season, 1 of Atlantis (and all subsequent seasons of both), so, yeah, it runs them parallel with each other, like you said

I used Plex to create a master playlist of all of my Stargate content in original broadcast order. So I guess it mostly resembles the “optimized” version , and all crossover references work.
