As soon as I saw this thing boost forward using rocket thrust both my bf and I said “if this is ever on the road everyone near this thing dies.”
Because some fucking brain dead idiot is going to rocket boost, kill himself from the speed, everyone behind him from the backblast, and everyone in front of him from the giant expensive bullet that was just created.
This is never going to get on the roads, and if it does, it’ll be only for police and military, if it’s not relegated to an expensive toy for the ultra rich they can’t even drive on the road.
Fucking Nazis.
Lots of coders on lemmy. Anyone want to make one of those tracker websites for how much money Elon musk has lost based on his stocks decreasing in value? I have a feeling it will be relevant soon.
stock market values aren’t real so why bother?
Tip: ARKK ETF is loaded with all the slop players and its biggest holding is TSLA (10% of the fund). Long puts (120 day expirations)
3% ain’t shit
No but that’s on top of the year over year losses.
They’re down 19.03% YTD and down 26.62% from the peak in December last year.
I have a great idea! Self Flying rocket Tesla trucks for everyone!
Your neighbor did what while riding a flying rocket Tesla truck???
Ahhhh! Taxis! Yeah! The Tesla trucks will be flying to your house at 5 thousand miles per hour to take you to Costco and take the kids to the movies…
Oh wait what!? The Tesla chopped off how many hea… Before crashing right into a nun travel van full of nuns and small puppies???
Ah okay military vehicles and for police force! That’s it!
Y’know, if he had any kind of faith in his product, ol’ Droopy Tits would get in it himself, fly it around a little. I mean, he tells everyone he’s some sort of a genius engineer. Doubtless he can figure out how to fly it within a few seconds. Surely no problems would come from that.
as with everything elon, he bought the company, not founded it, despite being a “founder”. He is basically edison. a business man, not an engineer.
Businesscon man.this is very true, yes. He’s in the business of conning people.
I genuinely don’t even know who that demonstration was for other than 12-year-olds. None of these cars have any practical or road applications. Where are you going to need to flip your cap off of a ramp or over some cars? It’s so fucking stupid.
Supercars are some of the most impractal things on the planet, yet people buy them all the time.
A supercar that can briefly fly? If that actually makes it to production, people will absolutely buy one.
I think the vacuum downforce could definitely be useful for track/stunt driving
As long as it’s dry. And there’s no pebbles or loose debris or sand on the track…
It’s neat but it’s also already been done. The McMurtry Speirling had the tech five years ago.
Very stupid investors?
EV sales are flat or shrinking in the US (but growing extremely quickly outside the US, partially thanks to the Hormuz situation). Tesla’s sales are flat. He’s doing anything possible to show that Tesla has a future.
So, he basically told his talented engineers to take the stabilizing parts of a SpaceX rocket, put them in the body of a car, and pretended that what was demoed is actually vaguely related to something people might be able to buy at some point.
There isn’t a chance that a vehicle with those kinds of thrusters would ever be road legal. You’re basically driving a pretty large bomb around. You crash that vehicle and you don’t just kill yourself, you kill everybody within a pretty large blast radius.
There isn’t a chance that a vehicle with those kinds of thrusters would ever be road legal
Tesla sold a car for years with no way to open the back seat doors in the event of an emergency.
US regulators allow Tesla to do anything.
There is a way. Not practical, but if you pry off the speaker cover, there is a release cable.
I blame regulators.
The Model X had it under a speaker cover. The model 3 didn’t have it listed in the user manual. Fans discovered under a rubber door pocket cover, you could remove a flushed mounted plastic tab and fish out a pull wire to open the door.
It wasn’t until 2024 that Model 3’s got a door release.
Strange. Maybe it’s a Europe thing, but my 2020(?) M3 has a little mechanical lever you can pull to open.
E: both front and back like nop’a 2018 model 3 in the response below
In the front seats, right? Everyone (even I agree rightfully so) got mad about the rear passengers not having one.
My 2018 has them on the front and rear. I love that car. I wish Elon want a Nazi because I wouldn’t have the shit EV I bought when my wife took over the Tesla.
A car that maybe you (or your passengers) can’t get out of and might die is different from a car that’s basically a bomb on wheels.
It’s a shame because my wife and I are saving up for an EV but I’m worried by the time we’re ready the models won’t be there. They’re already cutting the Hyundai Ioniq 6. Our top contender.
Companies are scrambling to start making more hybrids and EVs now with gas prices so high and EVs in such high demand.
Buy used. They will still be serviced at repair shops and you can get a 2year old EV for half the price of new.
Rivian?
You could get a more stylish EV.
Don’t be a prick dude. The person mentioned having a wife, that might include kids, and at least they’re looking into getting an EV instead of a 4 door short bed V8 pickup truck that will never see a day of work. Pick better targets
Are you fucking kidding?
Targets? I lightheartedly suggest someone get an e-bike, and suddenly you think they’re a “target”?
The fact that someone has a wife means that they can’t buy an e-bike on the off chance that they might have kids?
Fuck, man. What the hell is wrong with you? What the hell is wrong with your country. People are so car-brained that merely light-heartedly suggesting an e-bike is considered an attack? You have some serious fucking issues.
It does include kids. And the in-laws are a highway away.
I don’t drive daily to work and use public transit and walk when I can, but we do every now and then need to drive somewhere. The E-Bike doesn’t work there.
Okay, I know I could look this up indvidually, but for those of us who missed it, what happened today?
They demoed a car that was loaded with a shit load of compressed gas, then they had it do a kick flip over a line of cars and a semi truck. They also drove it up a massive inverted ramp and then had it flip over and land smoothly.
Looked cool as hell, but has absolutely no practical purpose other than allowing Nazi Musk to get headlines saying they have a flying car.
it’s not a flying car. it’s a car that can fall with style.
Supercars in general have no practical purpose, and people buy them. Being cool is the entire sales pitch.
They did a demo of the new roadster model; they’ve strapped a suction fan and HPA thrusters to it so it can do 0 to 60mph in under a second, drive up walls, perform a running jump over a semi-truck without a ramp, spin and do a standing flip.
The frothing, uncritical comments from Musk stans on that video are insane. I hope they’re mostly bots and don’t represent real humans - nobody is acknowledging how impractical, unsafe, or illegal any of these moves are, nor how it’s a just a stunt that will never reach real-world production or on-road use.
God damn it, I want that to be as cool as it should be! This timeline is bullshit and I’m calling shenanigans! THATS A FLYING FLIPPING FUCKING CAR AND ITS NOT COOL BECAUSE ELON!!!
Tesla released a ‘flying car’ video, I think.
It is actually a pretty cool stunt. Completely pointless from a commercial point of view, of course. But Tesla has been disconnected from market realities for a long time, so that’s just in character.
Right, if they could build a race track and have a bunch of these in a race, that might actually be kinda cool. I see no other reason for this.
Trackmania IRL?
There might be some niche situation where it’s helpful but that’s not even relevant because there’s no way it would be legal on public roads in most places. I also strongly doubt that it would be able to do it safely and compensate for different weight distribution of the vehicle with different passengers and such.
I genuinely can’t wait for a fat cat to buy one of these, try and do the flip with him in the driver’s seat, it partially roll, end up careening sideways into the side of a building, and finishing with a lithium grilled pancaked executive 😙 👌
I doubt they’d be able to even sit still safely, that amount of compressed air sitting in the undercarriage is much more dangerous than even the 10 gallons of gas sitting in a car.
That’s what I thought, the pressure vessels to get lift for a heavy electric car for just one second is a bomb extremely sensitive to crashes.
That could not be legal on the roads.
Then there’s the “range issue” of being able to do that maybe a few times, at best, for a few seconds. Cool demo, but you’d think just a revamped Roadster would be enough. Do it with a Cybertruck without showering everyone with shrapnel and I might be impressed.
I know you don’t have that set to one day.
Apparently their Q3 earnings report comes out next week, so I guess they tried wheeling out the vaporware car to make number go up before whatever’s in that earnings report hits?
I was wondering why they’re announcing something for 2028 production.
it was originally supposed to come out in 2020. But they’ve been taking $50,000 reservations for it since 2017. So who knows if it’ll exist in 2028
Oh god it’s star citizen
The trick is, you wait for early investors to die of old age before under-delivering.
Fully self driving stock
Fully self diving
Damn, that’s a lot better
That’s quite the y-axis zoom.
It takes real Axis Power to do that.
Did Tesla jump the shark today?
Yes, literally.
Was today’s event designed to cause the drop for someone’s benefit?
Wouldn’t be surprising!
This can’t be real. None of those Teslas are on fire.
I honestly don’t understand how people can think it isn’t AI
