Well maybe yeah on some level. It could be a fun thing is we could theoretically extend our shows as long as we wanted or whatever, maybe? But I am more saying I don’t think the tech actually works that way, it just seems like it does. Like ChatGPT doesn’t have the literal millions of unique jokes it would actually take to replace anyone who really writes jokes, it’s a lake that’s an inch deep.
Even if AI could make a perfect show with an ending included, I’d still rather watch stuff made by humans, unless we all get UBI and don’t need to worry about starving to death if we can’t find work.
RLM has a good idea for Star Trek. People are tired of short seasons and years between them. Force the writers to work with a limited budget and time frame.
I would go back to the quarries and focus on banging out longer stories and longer seasons. Let more guest writers in to experiment and see if the popular ones want to sign on long term. No more universe ending threats for the season finale.
Yeah I agree. Give us 20 episodes and churn them out. Give space for exploring it. Also, retcon the re-destruction of Gallifrey and have some old-school episodes of arrogant space aristocrats.
I think the issue with this isn’t whether an ai can generate an episode, can it generate hundreds of coherent episodes that are actually entertaining?
And even if it can…why would I want to watch that? What’s the point of exiting if we aren’t able to do anything?

I don’t want shows that run forever. I want stories that have endings.

Sure, again, maybe. This is a bit of an odd complaint to make on a thread about Dr who though.
Not to defend ai, but can Doctor Who writers?
Only if the BBC hires good ones. They seem to always want to kill the show even though it’s probably their global top hit.
