If you can’t take a bath without your phone you might have a problem.
I don’t even keep my phone in my pocket when exercising because of the humidity from sweating. If I’m hiking it either goes in my pack or in a ziplock to protect it.
In the actual shower, where the water is? Who does that?

From reading the comments though, it seems to be a mix of phone/stimulation-addicted people and people who aren’t. But I’m skeptical of those who claim they aren’t.

i use mine when i take a shower to play music that i can use to time how long it takes. i do not have it in the shower stall with me just hooked up to a bluetooth speaker on a shelf above the toilet next to the stall. the phone itself is laid on the lavatory counter about a meter from the shower and covered by the clothes i removed prior to getting wet so it doesnt get any water at all on it
Taking your phone into the shower, waterproof or not, is psychopath behavior. Jesus fuck you guys, take 10 minutes of your day to peel your eyes off of the screen and just relax for a bit.

I have brought my phone into the bathroom (not shower) exactly twice, in my entire life… and both times it was because I was expecting a vitally important call, and could not wait for the call to come before getting in the shower.
I can not imagine the necessity of regularly taking your phone into the goddamn shower itself

This thread is a great reminder that Lemmy users do not represent the general public. I put a phone mount in the shower so I don’t have to pause a podcast or whatever to take a shower, it’s nice. I don’t really love showers and struggle to stop what I’m doing to change direction, so it’s one less barrier to entry. My partner and some friends who have used my shower have also appreciated it.

Taking away the headphone jack was more likely so they could try to make you buy $200 wireless headphones that need to be replaced every few years.
Every few years? Brave of you to assume that after owning them for 6 months or so I haven’t sent all of my wireless earbuds through the wash because I didn’t feel them in the pocket when doing laundry.
Now I’m using over ear wireless headphones because I can’t mistakenly wash a huge set of cans.

Because said waterproofing was for accidental, rare incidents of exposure, such that you have enough time to yank it somewhere safe before water penetrated.
Waterproofing was never meant for intentional, repeated, or extended exposure to extreme environments. That’s what waterproof cases are for. You know, the kind that allow your phone to go intentionally into water.

I listen to The Daily podcast or audiobooks. The phone goes into a little 3D printed holder to keep it dry and redirect the sound. I’ve done this for years with multiple phones, never any issues.
Even though modern iPhones are “waterproof” I like to keep it as dry as possible. The touchscreen stops working reliably if it gets wet, and the speakers can get blocked by water droplets and reduces the volume.
It’s also worth noting that living in the PNW requires using the bathroom fan to keep the moisture down. The bathroom never gets that steamy, which I’m sure drastically changes the moisture exposure equation.

I mean I do bring the phone into the bathroom to listen to music, but I use it with a bluetooth speaker and it stays on the sink. Why would you even bring it inside the shower? Capacitive touch screens work like shit when wet.
I have a stand opposite where it stays dry. My shower is fairly big and I put it where the shampoo and conditioner is and it’s where the wall is … I’d never keep it wet.
I don’t touch the screen. I just listen to things. I could just leave it on the counter.

I’ve been to therapy, many times … yes, I’m suffering, yes I’m trying to improve and no it isn’t easy and I’m going through something rough really right now.
I have a lot of friends around me and no one to turn to but yeah, I’m not looking for an online consult right now (as in I’m not holding you or any other Lemmy socially hostage about this). I just can’t bear my own thoughts right now.

In the bathroom in general, I can understand. Even without a fan, the steam rarely reaches countertop height, so putting it on the countertop or the lid of the toilet or something else low still makes sense if you are in the shower.
My issue lies in having it IN the shower, and having it taking the moisture straight in the teeth. Like… why?? It’s not like it is impossible to hear from next to the shower, well out of the way of said moisture.
A lot of people in Japan supposedly, at least that’s what someone told me once. Apparently JDM smartphones had waterproofing way before others because of that.
My cousin kill a phone this way. He would leave it on the sink to listen to music while he showered and it died (old house - no exhaust fan). It happens.
