it helps they are pretty much legacy franchises that had an original story. MCU is not that, disney tries too hard to tie them all into a smorgasbord shows. i think the pre-disney marvel shows were much better(the ones that were cancelled by disney because of the merger).

I was about to bring up those as well. The next closest that didn’t really hit the “spin-off” level was the hunger games, but definately could.
There are several new things in the same universe, so I wouldn’t say there aren’t spin-offs. They’re still going. I would say this is one of the many correct answers for this.

Mark my words: we haven’t seen the end of “hit songs.” Think of songs like “I Want It That Way.” Or “Tiptoe Through the Tulips.” “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” “Despacito.” There may be 2-3 other examples I’m omitting, but my point is I’m not talking local band shit. I’m predicting (hell, prophesying) another very popular song. Think millions of people listening to a song, loving it, talking about it, covering it. Hell maybe it’ll even have a music video. The last thing I watched in theaters was a reshowing of the Fellowship of the Ring. Everything else is on a buddy’s Plex server. Fuck the movies I ain’t paying 50 dollars for sticky floors and shitty snacks. I can do both of those at home.
I’m with you. I feel a bit bad because my husband loves (or loved) the experience of going to the movies, whereas I couldn’t care less and would prefer my couch. But we used to go because he enjoyed it, and it was nice to avoid spoilers for big things. Nowadays between having kids and the overall experience of movie-going having completely gone down the shitter and more expensive to boot, we don’t go anymore. And I don’t really miss it. He goes out sometimes with his buddies to see a movie, and I’ll tell him if there’s something he has to wait to see with me (Dune is the only thing recently).
So you moan about lack of originality, but don’t support independent film, either? You’re just part of the problem.

It’s not really new is it? Was published in the 90s I believe.
Depends if you are talking about the novels or the TV series (or though the former is still considerably newer than Star Wars). The TV series was very influential on modern TV and spawned a whole generation of “Game of Thones-like” gritty and violent historical dramas. It also popularised the trope of no character being safe from a violent twist.
