However the claim that eagles would not mass in a large group like that is incorrect. I’ve personally seen beaches covered in Eagles before. Haines, Alaska has a festival every year about it.

Weird that there are no prominent photos of gathered eagles on that site. If there are any I could not find them.
Yeah a few others have mentioned that too. It definitely seems like a thing they do sometimes, though not in any areas around where I am.
They love a good meal. In my experience they tend to not take issue with their tablemates as long as no one trys to steal off their plate. And Salmon runs tend to have plenty for all.
Bald eagles do hang out together. No idea where there could be that many but I’ve seen 12-16 in one tree at a park a few blocks from home.
Pretty much anywhere in SE Alaska. Hundreds together in Juneau.

Bald eagles are just glorified seagulls. Perfect animal to represent the USA.
That’s a bit of an oversimplification of their taxonomy and, given the range of bald eagles it’s a better representation of North America than the USA.
The California Condor would be better if it had to be a bird since those are native only to the US. Another good choice would be the American Robin since their year round area is almost exclusively the US and they’re so common.
If we’re picking any animal species though, my pick would be the American Bison.
Ben Franklin wanted the turkey to be the national symbol. Had some nasty things to say about eagles. What a kidder.
While impressive, the Bison is only representative of the Great Plains. Something like an American Beaver, Badger, Striped Skunk, or even Black Bear (historically) covers nearly every state.
The bison is representative of both Native American culture and the effect white colonial settlers had on what is now the USA. The current population might be largely concentrated on the plains but that’s not all the American Bison represents.

Along the Mississippi around the Twin Cities there’s a bunch of them.
I know this is a personal story but in Homer, AK there is a guy who feeds bald eagles every day with fish guts. And locally, everyone knows about it and just lets it happen. And there are dozens and dozens of bald eagles just hanging around the property, eating all the bits of fish that he throws out for them. They kinda are a bother but, hey, it’s Alaska!

Well, a ten minute attempt to find any information via searching failed utterly. Nothing on the date in the image, nothing about cops being attacked by eagles, nada.
Mind you, search engines suck now, but to not find something this newsworthy seems to make it extremely unlikely to be real.
First frame front right eagle’s face is an amorphous blob when you zoom in, and guys pants fade a little too well into the landscape.

The closest thing to real life I’ve seen this in was a documentary about an ornithologist who studied seagull mating habits.
For which he had to visit their breeding grounds on the beaches and shoals. Guy had to wear fucking armor to stave off the constant bombardment of gull shit. It was a literal shit warzone. I commend the guy’s dedication to his profession, not sure I could do it.
