We already know AGI isn’t possible with LLM technology but looking past this, what I despise in the current state of AI tech journalism is the loop of:
AI stakeholder/spokesperson says something unrealistic
Journalist nods their head approvingly
Article is virtually an ad that recounts an event
Rinse and repeat
Too many tech enthusiasts masquerading as ‘journalists’ who seemingly suffer from short-term memory loss.
It’s like i’m seeing the same information on repeat because ‘journalists’ fall for the same marketing tactics endlessly and do little to actually question what they hear.
They probably just found a way for it to be more of an asshole in its response. Which in my opinion is pretty close as you can get to AGI. If you disagree well then fuck you!
Do you remember when every 5 minutes it was a new super advanced battery technology that was going to be able to hold a hundred thousand gigawatts of power and was capable of fully recharging in two minutes. And it was still on lithium ion 20 years later.

Yeah I miss when tech journalists were still actually doing a journalist job
