The majority of these distilleries are in red states. They voted for Trump and this is what they get.
Tariffs aren’t just Trump’s obsession, they’re a core part of Project 2025’s economic plan, so any R president/congress is going to keep throwing up tariffs.
Of course, tariffs aren’t actually helping American workers, because they’re effectively a hidden sales tax, while the R’s block labor reforms, such as increasing mimumum wage, destroying unions, etc. as they have done for decades.
Agreed. I’m in one and it’s hurting distilleries here. Absolutely fuck them!
TLDR;
For a few days, Chris Swonger saw some light at the end of the tunnel.
The head of the association representing U.S. distillers was optimistic a trade deal with Canada was at hand in mid-August, and that American liquor, wine and beer would soon be back on the shelves at the LCBO and other provincial monopolies.
…was this the whole article?

I still buy Canadian goods. Don’t care, worth it. Besides I’m less likely to get food poisoning. Win WIn
I should start a store here stateside that only sells Canadian goods. Food mostly, for safety
I would totally shop there. At least I know I won’t die.
Enjoy what you voted for.
Lol good I hope the American economy crumbles we deserve it
Have you seen the price of things? It’s definitely showing cracks
Those MAGA dumbshits voted for it, zero sympathy. Carry on Canada, the new North American beacon.
Quite, the first 2016 term had some similar things so dropping liquor sales isn’t a unexpected event.
Well maybe instead of complaining about Canadians not buying, they should be doing something to get rid of the menace in their whitehouse. But of course it’s much easier to just blame Canada.
If conservatives/regressives weren’t blaming other people for their problems, they wouldn’t be conservatives anymore.
With the number of companies that Trump is hurting, you’d think the CEOs would be putting some serious pressure on the politicians that their donations were intended to control.
I guess we have to boycott even harder.
This on top of younger generations not drinking nearly as much.
When a few beers cost as much as a 12 pack and a DUI can completely derail your life, I don’t blame them.
Well, I mean… a DUI should derail one’s life, otherwise it could ruins someone else’s life.
My point being grandpa would be forced to pour out his car beer before spending the night in the drunk tank, receiving a small fine without even missing work. The punishments today are harsh and life-altering. They’re so successful as a deterrent that many young people just don’t even see the point in drinking at all, hence the reduced drinking in gen Z.
thats why they are trying to legislate weed and ozempic. both of these reduce alcohol consumption.
Never doubt business will hurt ppl to stay alive.
Doesn’t hurt me at all. Sounds like they are having the day they voted for.
Aww boo hoo 🎻
Trade agreements mean shit because even with lower prices, I’ll never buy anything made in the USA.
Was the Canadian market that important for American liquor that our boycott busted them? Or were there other countries that also boycotted their alcohol?
Was the Canadian market that important for American liquor that our boycott busted them?
Yeah, it has been pretty damaging, but great for our local industry
Before I quit drinking (for now) I noticed they put on Canadian liquors that I never heard of before and they were great.
As an American im going to try my best to only buy Canadian
Crown Royal ftw!
omg that’s Canadian?! fuck yes.
At least that’s what the import company claims! If a real Canadian can correct me, please feel free
Crown Royal is brewed, distilled, and barrel aged in Gimli Manitoba.
Recently the company moved bottling for the US market to the US, but bottling for the Canadian market remains in Canada.
No need to correcr you as it is! 😊 https://www.crownroyal.com/story/our-home
Me too
Well, they could give everyone deep discounts to increase sales and so everyone can drink enough to blackout til the end of this nightmare.
You’re not going to buy back Canadian customers.
At least salvage what they can from the nightmare trying to bring back measles.
Alcohol is a disinfectant after all

Last year, Kentucky’s top five export products were:
Aerospace products and parts - $23.5 billion
Motor vehicles - $4.3 billion
Pharmaceuticals and medicines - $4.1 billion
Motor vehicle parts - $2.2 billion
Computer equipment - $1.6 billion
Granted, the number one country it exports to is Canada, but alcohol is a sliver.
