I think Ubuntu beat Microsoft to it, actually. “Get more security with Ubuntu Pro!”

Still, Watch MS make it so much worse. We just have to wait for people to start using window’s command line interface!

It’s so jaring to use my work computer, I can’t instead an ad blocker, and it’s over vpn which avoids my networks pihole. How do people deal with that level of advertising?

Normies don’t understand adblockers. I mean, its a tough concept, like quantum mechanics. Can’t expect them to know how to hit a button.

I know so many people who claim it’s just easier to watch ads and click them away and tell me about their little hacks, it’s crazy. Looking at a strangers phone gives me anxiety. My sister always tells me that watching tv isn’t that bad, and she’d record it and skip ads, which to me is already insane. NOW YOU CAN’T DO THAT ANYMORE. She said she can still skip it, but not on the “good” movies, it still works on some trash tv and daytime stuff. They clearly took that away by choice and she’s still like: it’s just like 5 ads a movie, we just go to tge toilet or whatever. Same with navigating the internet. Well yeah, you just ignore the pop ups and agree to all the cookies

I haven’t watched a live TV show outside of a game at a bar in like 30 years. Hell, I had tuner cards in a MythTV box and it would strip the ads for me based on the volume changes back when I paid for cable.

The complacent laziness and stupidity of people is why we have ads on everything today. 30 seconds on Google and the ads would be gone. Instead they just click through.

Fuck, I miss the old internet.

I do too. I know it’s a very elitist thing to say, but the internet, while not as vast as it is now, was way better when it took some effort to browse the web. Like a pc, a modem, some knowledge, troubleshooting etc. It was like a bouncer, keeping some people out. I haven’t had home tv for like 15 years now, and the only time i see live tv is when i’m at someone’s home and the tv is running. No joke, i would rather not watch tv at all. Same with the internet. I’ve never been a social media guy, but someone tried to show me something on facebook the other day, the last time i saw facebook was when someone showed me their farm on farmville. It was pure nightmare fuel. I can not imagine apending my time like that. I know different people enjoy different things, but that seems really dumb, and these people are the reason you even beed adblockers, vpn, a piehole, cookie deniers and whatnot.

What people put up with on Facebook, especially after things like Cambridge Analytica, is utterly astounding to me. I burned my facebook account in something like 2007 after I heard about Zuckerberg’s “dumb fucks” statement.

And then they post pics of the grandchildren along with every piece of trivia to be used against them in years to come. Weirdos.
