Fun fact, the heavy white face paint/“makeup”, and beauty marks of both men and women of this era in France were to cover up the rashes, pockmarks, scars and sores brought on by rampant outbreaks of Syphilis! The powdered wigs, too, covered the hair loss and lesions caused by the disease. They also wore stong perfumes to cover up the stench of open untreated syphilitic sores and skin decay! 🙃Horrifying!

Certainly. Just don’t put it around your eyes or lips, for that natural look!

The Great Male Unification is a pretty interesting topic about how men gave up fashion.

Coined by British psychologist John Flügel in 1930, it is considered a major turning point in the history of clothing where the male style stopped being as ornate and detailed.[2] Flügel asserted that men “abandoned their claim to be considered beautiful” and “henceforth aimed at being only useful”.[3] The Great Renunciation encouraged the establishment of the suit’s monopoly on male dress codes at the beginning of the 19th century.

Turns out, rich men didn’t like it being easy to identify them in an age of guillotines
