all new videos by benn jordan (he used to make audio production videos but now pivoted into consumer advocacy and privacy), the latest one is called “The Richest Country Is Pretty Mid Now” (44mins): https://youtu.be/4FZy1lBNykA and is about why things are the way the are in this day and age, how capitalism works and how none of it is by accident.

just watched the benn jordan video. i was worried at the start because it’s about economics and it didn’t seem to want to be that critical of capitalism. but it communicates well and paces smoothly. i felt i learned a lot, but didnt have to work hard to do so. i liked the points about being fearful to vote, and about it being more valuable to take than to gain. i just wish the vid had wrapped up the ideas better. 90% through the runtime, we’re introduced to humanity’s deathbed regrets, rather than being told what Nixon retreating from the gold standard has to do with Toys R Us closing down. im sure the very economically literate followed the throughline, but i don’t count myself among that group. that aside, this was a well made video that im glad i watched. thanks for the rec!

“Cultural Nihilism and the Rise of The Grifter” a 58min video by Jarrett Moore: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qjna7PROMZ8
it’s about the new wave of “content creators” (term used deliberately) and the struggle of the mainstream media and how seemingly all of it is a grift nowadays

(his other videos are also very good)

I’ve never actually read any of her stuff, but I’ve known enough Libertarians and played enough Bioshock in my day to be passingly familiar with Ayn Rand’s whole…thing. So when I spotted Owl Criticism’s recent five-plus hour deep dive [05:19:15] into Rand’s life, philosophy, and her magnum opus Atlas Shrugged, I knew I had to click. This creator is new to me, and I really like his chill, humour-tinged delivery; a five hour commitment sounded like a lot, but I really found it worth it.

nice one! is it more of a summary of Rand’s work offering critical analysis, or is it more of a personal essay about what the work means to Wl Criticism? 5 hours os a big commitment, so i wanna know if the video will be moving before i give it a shot

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6z2OclkYdw4 Star Wars Republic Commando Deserved Better is a 30-minute video about an old star wars game. the passion bleeds through, the writing is heartfelt, and i left the vid wanting to play a game I’d never heard of prior. heads up, if you hate plot synopses, this maybe isn’t the video for you, but it’s only got 1000 views so i think it’s worth a shout-out
