Ok read a chapter today in #Braille, I started The Shadow of the Torturer (The Book of the New Sun 1) by Gene Wolf, and very quickly it was clear that this was the correct choice, I do not think it would be easy to follow in audio or TTS. So far it is exceptional.
@main @mastoblind @bookstodon I’ve read over 160 pages in #Braille in the last ~3 weeks, I have been aiming for 10 pages a day, though right now averaging just under 7. Glad to find my speed back to about 5 minutes per page, I was up to about 3.5 per page when reading Harry Potter over a year back, however The Book of the New Sun is drastically more advanced.
That’s awesome!
@main @mastoblind @bookstodon Ok am up to chapter 3, and this is a superb book so far, the writing strongly reminds me of some of Poe’s more complex stories, in particular Ligeia, which should also give people an idea of the language and style of the writing.
@main @mastoblind @bookstodon Partway through chapter 4 now, and it continues to get better, and reaffirm that reading this in #Braille was the correct decision.
@main @mastoblind @bookstodon Ok read another 7 pages today, averaging just under 6 minutes per page., I’m almost through chapter 4, and around 15% through the book.
@main @mastoblind @bookstodon Ok and finished chapter 4, and also read chapter 5 today.
@main @mastoblind @bookstodon Read all of chapter 6 today something like 24 pages.
@main @mastoblind @bookstodon Ok and that’s chapter 7 done, ~20 pages today.
@main @mastoblind @bookstodon Finished chapter 8, and volume 1, apparently stopped reading last night <3 pages from this…
@main @mastoblind @bookstodon Ok read chapter 9, averaging 5 minutes per page now.
@dhamlinmusic @main @mastoblind @bookstodon Oh, you are going to like this book. Confusing as hell, intentionally, but sounds like you are prepared for that. I have read it in both print and audio, I preferred the audio because it forced me not to skim or speedread.
@bondolo @main @mastoblind @bookstodon Yeah I found #NLSBard has a bunch of Gene Wolf’s works, including both Shadow & Claw, and Sword & Citadel, so I have both on my display. It all seems to be 2016 transcriptions in EBAE.
@bondolo @main @mastoblind @bookstodon somewhere around half through The Shadow of the Torturer so far, biggest thing that throws me now and then is when it just casually decides to be in classical Greek or latin for a moment, not that Poe doesn’t do the same. Figuring out how something should be read is significantly easier when you use the right language.
