I’m just done responding to assholes. Because that’s what most of the responses were - by assholes. Whether it’s passive aggressive or just direct, you’re still an asshole. It proves my point down to the tee about everything I’ve talked about here.

If you’re going out of your way to try and disprove someone by being an asshole, by being an asshole too. Guess what? YOU’RE AN ASSHOLE! So fuck you.

The fediverse is only better because it isn’t ran by Spez and his crazy dumb ideas, nor is it owned by shady companies with enshittification in mind.

However in terms of just online behavior with users? No, I feel that it is more or less similar than it is on Reddit.

Users prompting responses from me that they don’t like, so they go on downvoting parades. Yup, that’s a Reddit thing.

Users antagonizing me and of course, getting responses in reflection to said antagonizing before prompting with downvote parades. Yup, that’s Reddit too.

Users with twisted logic who engage with you just to take a shit on you and try digging for reasons to report and get you banned. Totally a Reddit thing too.

Oh I almost forgot, whenever you mention ‘downvote’, income the ironic users who’re like “D-DUH-DUH-DUWNVUTE!”

The only difference is that users of that caliber, can come from an different Fediverse server when everything is centralized on Reddit. The asshole volumes are just retained and that’s what the Fediverse unfortunately falls flat on.

Sure, call it an internet thing, but these are key platforms where people would prefer to spend their time on. One of which, people flocked to because the other decayed and corroded in time. But I’m having a hard time figuring whether or not it was the decisions Reddit made or the users.

I say the users.

Do yourself a favor and disable downvotes in the settings. There’s zero value in seeing that people don’t like what you said - actually, there’s less than zero value. It’s actively harmful to you. Downvoting is the laziest form of disagreement. If someone takes issue with something I’ve said, they can take the time to explain their view. Nobody has ever changed their mind because someone in the audience shouted “boo!”

We should never have stupid post scores, they never serve a good purpose if only to inflate a user’s ego. It’s just a stupid internet toy for people to play with. Why have something around like that?

Anytime I ever see a place have a comment or post section with scoring systems, it is already a trainwreck. You will not have a good time engaging with said community because everyone’s thoughts will be tied to this dumb thing. Supposedly, these scoring systems are meant to encourage weeding low-effort posts by highlighting more good ones. Except, people have fucked with them so much, it doesn’t even matter, so its purpose is moot and it should be removed entirely.
