    Honestly I think part of the problem is that Lemmy designed communities to be specific to the host they’re on rather than distributed across the fediverse, so communities and posts end up duplicated across the various Lemmy servers. On Mastadon the closest thing to communities is hashtags which are not instance specific. On the other hand, Lemmy is trying to replicate a reddit-like experience including each community having specific moderators who can set the tone and rules and curate posts for the community, which requires really requires at least leadership of the community to collaborate directly.

    It’s a challenge that I’m not sure if it has an obvious solution yet. Is it better to not have any control over communities and instead moderate at an instance level? This bypasses a lot of the power mod problems that reddit had and Lemmy might develop, but I think it remains to be seen as the fediverse developes more
