toynbee@lemmy.worldOPto Dull Men's Club@lemmy.world•I've been growing a beard since the pandemic and today I shaved it off4·11 hours agoMy dad is sadly gone as of a few years ago. I never once saw him clean shaven. It would be … Weird.
toynbee@lemmy.worldOPto Dull Men's Club@lemmy.world•I've been growing a beard since the pandemic and today I shaved it off4·11 hours agoI participated in a group interview during the pandemic. The interviewee had a really nice beard and one of the other interviewers said “that’s an awesome beard, is it a pandemic beard or from beforehand?” I actually started growing mine about six months beforehand, but it probably wouldn’t have become what it did without those circumstances.

toynbee@lemmy.worldOPto Dull Men's Club@lemmy.world•I've been growing a beard since the pandemic and today I shaved it off4·11 hours agoSure, but my unimpressive jawline is also on display for the first time in years.
toynbee@lemmy.worldOPto Dull Men's Club@lemmy.world•I've been growing a beard since the pandemic and today I shaved it off13·12 hours agoI haven’t shaved off the beard since the pandemic, but I did trim it (and my hair) when the kid was young…er. The kid literally didn’t even notice. Their mother even tried to direct their attention to my fact and the kid didn’t notice a difference.
I’ve self diagnosed as face blind, so maybe they inherited that.
Perhaps that’s the irony?

I’ll admit that, in that context, the title never made sense to me.

edit: Make text slightly more readable.
I was thinking Tom Lehrer.
When I got my first phone with GPS and I think I just discovered IFTTT, I wanted to write a script that would detect via location when you walked through certain doors and do something like play the Imperial Death March. Never got around to doing it though since I keep location off.
I also like to maintain balance in containers as well for just these reasons, but after years of living with people who didn’t share that preference, I learned to lift a container in place, then pull it out. That way I am cognizant of its balance before taking significant risk.
You should read Sourdough.
toynbee@lemmy.worldto Lord Of The Rings Memes@lemmy.dbzer0.com•The hobbits were the chickens all alongEnglish1·3 days agoIt is indeed. It’s fun that Lemmy is still that small. Besides his interest in chickens, he also has a very recognizable tone - I’ve seen him talk about comics, for example, and realized it was him before I looked at the username.
I have no advice about raccoons, but I wish I did.
toynbee@lemmy.worldto Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•The "Thank God Ledge" in Yosemite National Park, California2·3 days agoThat’s a fair interpretation, I suppose.
Still, I think the only thing I would be thinking there would be some variation of “why the hell did I come up here and how soon can I be safely back aground!”

toynbee@lemmy.worldto Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•The "Thank God Ledge" in Yosemite National Park, California2·4 days agoI have a fear of heights.
I broke my ankle in a life altering way falling down two stairs unto a sidewalk. That, to me, justified my already reasonable fear of heights.
I don’t understand why this is the “Thank God” ledge rather than the “Oh My God!” or similar ledge.
That’s a fair question, and - based on the down votes - one you’re not alone in raising. I didn’t actually take the picture to post here, I took it to send to a friend and fellow parent because I thought my kid was being cute. I decided to share it more publicly because I thought the covering of their face was especially cute and obscured their identity. Seems I misjudged.
