Even in the context of the game, at some point, Batman is asked something like, “These are all criminals, should you really be helping them?” and Batman responds by pointing out that some of the inmates are political prisoners. Which is very applicable to real life, given how corrupt almost all justice systems in the world are.

Machine translators seem to do an especially poor job with Japanese, very often using the wrong pronoun.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Have you ever met an actual dumb person?
3·6 days agoWhen I was in high school, I volunteered for a couple of days in a special ed class, which, I guess by definition, contained people with sub-100 IQ (sub-70, even). I guess that fits your specifications. One thing I remember observing was that the girls were more capable of stringing together coherent sentences than the boys.
Also, a couple of years ago, I worked as a school bus driver for 3 months while looking for a tech job. There seemed to be much more variance in intelligence among my colleagues than I was used to: some seemed to be just as smart as most of the ones in my previous tech jobs, but others, while they were generally nice enough, seemed to fail to grasp basic concepts or retain information very well during the training.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How dangerous is to travel to the US nowadays?
2·6 days agoStill the same.
My observation is that the Canadian travel advisories site generally seems to be updated in a timely manner. Very soon after Trump’s invasion of Iran, for example, multiple Middle Eastern countries, including the UAE, were marked as “Avoid all travel” or “Avoid non-essential travel”.
The fact that they mark the US as lower-risk than multiple European countries that I would consider much safer definitely lowers my trust in them, though.

9·8 days agoThe Canadian travel advisories site claims that it is generally safe to travel to the US: https://travel.gc.ca/destinations/united-states
Frankly, I think they are bullshitting because of Canada’s diplomatic position with the US.

CoupleMemes@sh.itjust.works•Your Worst Dating Decision Was Probably at 19English
61·8 days agoObviously, the people who dated someone at 19 who they subsequently broke up with is more likely to regret that date. And then there are the people who are still with the person they dated at 19.
Although I guess it is true for me that my worst dating decision was somewhere around 19: I didn’t make any effort to date anybody, and now that I have no dating experience at age 33, that ship has now sailed without me.
I’ve travelled to a few countries in Europe. Spain may not be Latin America, but it definitely seemed to have a noticeably more extroverted culture than the other countries I visited: multiple strangers started talking to me on the streets and in grocery stores and such, even though my Spanish is terrible, and I remember even the bus drivers being particularly friendly.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What are some (realistic) things you wanted to get for a while, just for fun?
1·3 years agoFrom what I can tell, Zero does that shit that Tesla and BMW do, where you have to pay to unlock features that your car/motorcycle already has. Which is a shame, because the idea of owning an electric motorcycle, particularly a highway-capable one, intrigues me.

Do you have at least one functioning one?
