root_beer@kbin.socialto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some things that you can’t do in a small town that you wish you could?242·2 years agoIt’s bad enough dealing with crippling depression in a small town, where everyone’s going to tell you that A: your condition is a moral failure rather than an illness with physiological underpinnings, B: religion is the answer to your condition, C: (for males, anyway) your condition makes you weak and effeminate, or D: a combination of the above or more likely all of them. Adding those things on top of it is a recipe for suicide.
No, I get it, that song gets lodged in my head all the time too, hi-five
…sometimes, I’ll sing it to myself, raising my hand into the air as I reach the end of the line, and close it into a fist on the “Taurus!” part, like it’s some kind of overly dramatic Broadway horseshit
It’s not just science-related videos either; I recently saw a video about the Taurus returning to Ford’s lineup, despite the car existing only as a rebadged Mondeo in the Chinese market now, and no such announcements being made anywhere for it to return to the US market
I really wish there was a viable alternative to youtube, it’s the only google product I consciously use and it’s pure trash

root_beer@kbin.socialto Reddit Migration@kbin.social•Did Karma really matter that much in Reddit?2·2 years agoIt was important enough for karma-farming bots to exist for some reason, I dunno. I’m glad it’s not really a thing here, it was especially frustrating to see the occasional innocuous comment be downvoted for some inexplicable reason.
root_beer@kbin.socialto World News@beehaw.org•US evaluating what Wagner Group rebellion means for Ukraine war1·2 years agoI wonder what this will mean for Ramzan Kadyrov. He relies on Putin for protection, right? But if Putin is seen as the paper tiger he is, will Kadyrov be safe? His Kadyrovites didn’t have a very good showing yesterday, either, having just sat there in traffic for a few hours, probably dicking around on their phones.

Genuinely curious—is there any reason to believe they’d actually do this?

Where might one go to do that…?

Honestly, I don’t even care if that’s the case. Cars are becoming more like living rooms on wheels and less engaging overall (less about driving and more about being driven), so I don’t even care what I drive when the time comes, so long as it isn’t a piece of garbage with a shoddily-built interior. Hell, I’d rather just not have a car at all at that point, but we don’t have the infrastructure here (in the US) for that.
