I like snaps. The nextcloud snap served me well for a decade at my last job. The ability to put everything required into one snap package and never modify the base system is awesome.

Depilatory creams are your friend in that area.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Microsoft doing shady Microsoft stuff againEnglish
17·10 months agoSwitched to Ubuntu completely this year and I think it’s finally ready. There are still issues, there are always going to be issues, but at least I get to choose which apps I want to use.
Windows 11 is just objectively terrible. It’s Microsoft turning your power bill into their profit.

Technology@lemmy.world•Rule34 blocked the UK entirely rather than comply due to the new law.English
18·1 year agoIt’s the same schtick you hear from pedophiles in defense of their child sex dolls and it’s unsurprising to see it coming from rule34 in particular considering they serve up a lot of that content in cartoon form.

Technology@lemmy.world•Linux Reaches 5% Desktop Market Share In USAEnglish
14·1 year agoI put Ubuntu on my year old Windows laptop and to my surprise, everything is just better. I mean better than Windows AND better than Linux ever was before when I used it previously. I wouldn’t be surprised if we start seeing some major manufacturers shipping PCs with Ubuntu pre-loaded in the coming years.

Canada@lemmy.ca•The US under Trump cannot be misunderstood: They are a threat to Canadian sovereignty.English
21·1 year agoWe don’t want to annex part of the US. We don’t want to import more conservative voters from the US. We just want to be left alone and our responses are going to be symmetrical in keeping with that unfortunately.

News@lemmy.world•Progressives Say GOP's H-1B Visa Feud Distracts From Real Problem: 'Billionaire Robber Barons'English
12·2 years agoYes, the issue is billionaire robber barons, AND the issue is that they are importing cheap labor to replace Americans, AND the cheap labor is suppressing wages for Americans. It’s even worse than the TFW program in Canada as it applies to skilled labor that is available in the US, but more expensive.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Would Kamala Harris have won the 2024 election if Latinos didn't shift hard to the right?English
52·2 years agoOh no doubt in my mind it’s the same as the stockholm syndrome afflicted gay men who were all over social media supporting Trump. It doesn’t matter what the Republican party does or says, men in the US want to support it and delude themselves that they aren’t it’s targets.

2·2 years agoI love Slack Wyrm. It is best to start from the beginning and catch up so you learn all of the lore, and there is a lot of lore!
He posts everything a week early to Patreon and holds court there over whether anything should change and often the comics on Patreon and what gets posted to the website and socials differ a bit.

42·2 years agoPsychologists do not prescribe medication. No one is being prescribed Adderall after one visit to a psychologist, because all the psychologist can do is refer to a psychiatrist who then might make a prescription after confirming the diagnosis.
Stop repeating your opinion as fact. You are confidently incorrect.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Don't you all get tired of the constant negativity?English
6·2 years agoIt’s exhausting. Lemmy isn’t so bad. Threads is absolutely terrible. It’s like the MIL subs on Reddit, only for every negative topic imaginable. I just stopped opening the app because all it shows me is content on sexual assaults and rapes and people being victimized and having all sorts of troubles.

4·2 years agoIn Quebec a lot of people use it so it’s not unheard of on North America.
I have used a lot of stuff over the years but my favorite would have to be a little command line program called cowsay. It takes whatever text you feed it and puts it in a speech bubble above a cow, hence the name.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Do you believe Lemmy/Mastodon can become mainstream and fully replace their centralized counterparts?
3·3 years agoI think Lemmy is coming along nicely. There is lots of content for me to consume. I am on lemmy.ca so I haven’t seen any of the bugs other people are talking about, it just works except for subscribing to places on the busy instances which shows pending for a while.
People will get used to how this works and I think it snowballs from here.

Ah yes, the dolls that “aren’t hurting anyone” according to the pedos that buy them. There will be someone in this thread defending their child sex dolls before long.
