I have them programmed to do select all, cut, copy, paste, launch terminal, close tab, quit app. The mic mute key is very useful and having a wheel to control audio volume feels nice and intuitive.

I run a single user instance, more or less, so there is little chance of some other user causing this load.
Some of it will be due to the way Kbin is built but I believe any software using ActivityPub to communicate will run into similar issues sooner or later, especially with network traffic usage.

They are synced. There is an insane data volume, yes. It is hell.
My guess is specialized hardware. Similar to how mining crypto moved from CPU -> GPU -> ASIC, we’ll see LLM hardware that optimizes the currently-cpu-intensive pieces.

Recently I was doing some Azure integration work, with OAuth, Teams and Outlook. At one point I noticed that logging in with a MS account causes my browser to do ~10 redirects between different services while downloading over 30 MB of Javascript and thought “Huh, this looks like decades of technical debt. Either MS devs are waaay smarter than me or this is a pile of garbage”. I guess both could be true.
With some ways of looking at things, the world as a whole is getting better, rather than worse.
