On the drawing too loud, that could easily be an undiagnosed neurodivergent person with auditory sensitivity. People who are unaware of their neurodivergence can sometimes be the biggest assholes about it. I also have auditory sensitivity and it gets much worse and harder to deal with when I’m stressed and/or sleep deprived. In that state persistent irregular noises are much more likely to make me have a meltdown, especially if I can’t escape. For someone who doesn’t know what’s happening and doesn’t have healthy coping strategies that situation can easily become a meltdown directed at the most immediate irritant, in this case their child, which is really awful for the child. I was in that position a lot as a kid and it fucking sucks. I hated my parents. I’m not sure I can ever forgive them for how they treated me but I know now it wasn’t malicious. Still, the damage was done.

  • Cat’s are a more viable option if your work schedule is crazy and you can have them where you live. I have two and they have literally saved my life at least a couple times so far. I initially got one, but she needed much more play time than I was prepared to provide, so I got a second one so she had someone to play with regularly. I love them both so much it’s crazy. With the automatic feeder I only need to feed them once a day manually (they get wet food once a day), and the litter boxes only need to be cleaned every few days. If I got automatic litter boxes it would be even less work. The really nice thing about cats is their social cues are so different, like if you ignore them they think you’re chill and nice and will come say hi, so when I’m feeling really down and falling into a spiral one of them ends up sitting on me or getting in my face to demand attention and it helps break the spiral. Also they’re so warm and soft just being able to touch them is nice. I could go on and on about the benefits of having cats lol.

Whether you end up getting a pet or not I hope you’re doing better. You are more than your body. You’re a woman, no matter what anyone else says.

  • The problem with religion is it primes people for believing things just based on a trusted authority saying so. There’s no evidence in support of the existence of any supernatural entities whatsoever, and there’s no evidence to support the existence of a life after death, but people believe it anyway and religion holds their “faith” to be a virtue in and of itself. You could argue that that isn’t harmful by itself, but consider that many religious people believe things that the evidence of their own eyes proves impossible, and that any idea is fair game when you treat faith as a virtue. It doesn’t matter if people today only believed the “good” parts of religion, eventually someone will corrupt their blind faith and convince them of whatever they want, like that being gay is a sin worthy of death, that trans people are evil and shouldn’t be allowed to exist, that your pastor is totally a great guy and you should donate money to the church and totally trust him alone with your kids. The dangers of religion are in teaching people to stop thinking for themselves.

  • I have to hard disagree with you there. The beauty of the math equations they test you with in school is completely artificially selected. The vast majority of math does not have nice neat solutions. There is a lot of it that doesn’t have any solution at all. The beauty of engineering is figuring out how much of things you actually need. You might calculate that some quantity should be an irrational number for some design optimum, but the amount of precision you actually need will be some range around that. When you do that and see your design in the real world actually functioning, that’s the greatest feeling in the world by far.
