andrewth09@lemmy.worldto Global News@lemmy.zip•Mexico accuses Youtuber MrBeast of exploiting Mayan pyramids permit5·7 days agoAuthorities said that while they had granted permission to film at the sites, they had not permitted for-profit use. A MrBeast representative denied some of the accusations.
I would be surprised if this holds up in court. MrBeast (1) clearly was making a for-profit video because that’s his whole job and (2) promotional segments of the video were not filmed on site. There should be vetting on filming applicants so I would wonder why this was allowed at all in the first place.
Mexico’s Secretary of Culture Claudia Curiel de Icaza said on Thursday that, although they had authorised the permit for MrBeast to film, they had never authorised the publication of false information or the use of heritage site images for trademark advertising.
Was that explicitly stated in the filming permit (or written into law)? If so, MrBeast’s legal team fucked up.
