  • Apple, Qualcomm, Nvidia, AMD and Intel are using TSMC to produce some, most or all of their chips currently. Shutting down TSMC or controlling its allocation will hurt many countries right now.

Seeing as TSMC is currently scaling up fab production in the US with their new fabs means they’re feeling that pressure and made the deal with the promise of US protecting them.

However, seeing as the current US administration is all over the place and Nvidia started selling to China again, I wouldn’t count on US risking all out war to protect Taiwan anymore.

  • Get a projector with at least 1080p actual output resolution.

Most entry level ones have terrible lenses which means you’ll need to experiment a bit with how high you’ll mount them cause they need to be dead on to display properly, otherwise half the screen will be blurry. I highly recommend a cheap aluminum camera tripod with a center collumn for height adjustment.

For screen I bought a white roller blind for like 8 bucks from a home supplies store and mounted it by passing a string through the tube and tying the ends to whatever worked best. In terms of picture quality it’s exactly the same, but if you can afford an actual projection screen and haul it around then do that.

For sound I would recommend a battery powered Bluetooth speaker because they’re cheap and easy to carry, but you may experience a slight sound delay which can be solved with a 3.5mm aux cable in the aux port.

My final suggestion is to get a used Nintendo Wii with sports and a couple of controllers, endless fun for the right crowd.

  • Video games with apparently sentient NPCs.

Custom ARM SoCs from AMD and Nvidia for laptops, tablets and handheld consoles, running customized Linux to avoid Microsoft’s fees.

YouTube switches to unskipable server-side ads injection directly into the original video stream, rendering adblockers ineffective. Others soon follow.

Mainstream media starts releasing news in TikTok style videos where the bottom half of the screen plays random Minecraft / satisfying to watch slop.

End to end encrypted communication is quietly outlawed following some terrorist attack, using national security fearmongering. You’ve got nothing to fear if you have nothing to hide.

China inevitably invades Taiwan, TSMC burns their fabs down to protect their IP. Samsung and Intel fabs become the most cutting edge process nodes on next cycle, China catches up, profits go up all around.

Google kills Search and now Gemini is their only search engine. Others soon follow.

  • Same here. Let’s hope they aim for a light orbital rocket that can be mass manufactured and reused, for example, or at least a Falcon type rocket that also had a hopper test vehicle initially

Edit: Reading Honda’s own post about the launch they seem to be implying that they want to develop a vehicle that can achieve orbit, but also to use it for transportation purposes?

It’s too early to make assumptions, but they do clearly state that they are aiming for something that can reach 100km in altitude in a vertical fashion. They also say they hope to achieve suborbital flights by 2029.
