Until the Switch, popular first party releases received price cuts via Player’s Choice and Nintendo Selects re-releases. Getting rid of that, hiking Nintendo Switch 2 console and game prices, and pushing their Nintendo Switch Online subscription are all signs of increased greed on Nintendo’s part.

News@lemmy.world•Homeschooling Hits Record NumbersEnglish
111·21 days agoOn average bad, since often a major reason for homeschooling is instilling a greater degree of fundamentalist religious belief while preventing access to a diversity of alternative viewpoints in a classroom setting.
Thanks for implementing the bot comment labeling; can’t wait to see what else is new!

Apple and Google have a duopoly with iOS and Android, so the only means of ensuring competition is preventing them from abusing market dominance by locking competitors out of exclusive platform functionality. Complying with the spirit of the law would be turning the feature into an API usable by non-Apple smartwatches.
Apple being needlessly petty yet again.

Technology@lemmy.zip•Under the hood: How Firefox suggests tab groups with local AI | The Mozilla BlogEnglish
3·1 month agoProper, URL-barless webapp support seems much more important a priority than implementing AI features that needlessly increase browser resource usage.
I personally find the upvote and downvote buttons hard to tap in Blorp, and would rather have the option to swipe than making them large to the point of reducing feed compactness, but multiple options to suit user preference should definitely be available.
The four main ones are the most important: upvote, downvote, reply, and save. Of those, upvote and downvote would be used most often.
While swipes would be the fastest gesture, perhaps another gesture that could be used to complement it is the long press (though it may be too similar to double tap).
Long press menu in Mlem:

1·1 month agoPersonally, seeing the votes my posts or comments are getting is an encouragement to participate more. One could argue it encourages a harmful karma-seeking system, but I think that knowing that people are reading one’s posts and comments, even if not commenting themselves, is an encouragement to keep using Lemmy. Perceptions that the platform is dead—such as assuming one’s posts are not being read due to not getting responses—could lead some users to return to Reddit.

News@lemmy.world•Gov. Landry urges lawmakers to block New Orleans’ cash lifeline amid deepening fiscal crisisEnglish
7·1 month agoThere’s no more corruption in New Orleans than in the rest of Louisiana; fascist right-wing politicians are themselves corrupt for denying funding to liberal cities, just as Trump is doing by weaponizing FEMA.
