I think this is a terribly disheartening quote. It’s very true. But it’s sad that there’s basically zero hope for us as a people to come together to do great things that benefit our species and the others trapped on this planet with us. We’re doomed to a future of selfishness and violence

I keep bouncing between this one and Jerboa. I like Liftoff a little more, as it’s easier to handle multiple instances and accounts, but I wish that it had mod tools so I wouldn’t have to go my communities in the browser or PC to do anything mod related.

Same with me. Made it even worse Thay I gave my son my overwatch account when we switched to 2 and it would’ve cost me a years salary to get them all back lol

Overwatch was it for me. Loved the game for the first couple of years, then Blizzard did typical Blizzard things and it’s a disgusting pile of micro (macro) transaction shit now. I hate the battle pass format so many games are trying to incorporate now.

I’m sure you could, people use vinegar to remove rust from iron all the time, I’ve just never personally heard it being used in this application. If you try it though, let me know how it goes

My brother swears by their ABC pants, but I have some similar ones from Costco that cost $15 and are just as good. My wife loves their yoga pants too, but they’re so overpriced it’s ridiculous.

Yeah that’s true, but not everyone needs, or can afford a top of the line espresso machine. I’ve got a bunch of different coffee makers (french press, drip carafe, hand press espresso, keurig [which I hate], and just got a used nespresso machine for cheap [hate the company, but the coffee is really good and convenient]) and it beats paying barista prices for a coffee everyday.
I still want a nice espresso machine, cause I usually just drink espresso, but the nespresso is satisfying the itch. The manual machine makes good espresso, but it’s a total pain in the ass and I don’t ever feel like fooling with it.

Yeah for real. I guess it’s way cheaper to make that crap than natural fibers. Under Armor has done a fantastic job of making us believe this is some magic material

Assuming it isn’t too pitted, you strip it of the rust or old seasoning (the black stuff), then re-season it.
For stripping, I’ve used the self cleaning cycle in my oven and my big green egg, but don’t recommend that as it can cause the cast iron to crack sometimes. I’ve seen people spraying their cast iron with oven cleaner and placing it in a garbage bag in the sun for a day or two. It’s supposed to work very well, but I haven’t tried it.
For seasoning, I like to rub a very light coat of oil into the entire surface of the cast iron (get an oil with a high smoke point, I’ve used peanut oil most of the time) and then wipe the oil off until you can see it anymore. Place the cast iron into the oven and set it to 500F. When it get’s to temp let it sit in there for an hour, then turn off the oven and let it and the cast iron cool completely. Rinse and repeat as many times as you want to (I usually do at least 6 cycles to get the seasoning nice and established, but I’ve done as many as 12 and don’t really see too much of a benefit). There’s tons of different methods for seasoning cast iron and some people swear by different oils, grapeseed, flax, bacon, vegetable shortening. I’ve tried a couple different ones and haven’t’ seen a noticeable difference.
Then you just cook with your new cast iron. After every time, gently clean the pan, then oil it extremely lightly and heat it to completely dry it before storing. Don’t cook anything acid like tomatoes, or you will see your hard earned seasoning stripped away in a heartbeat.

I got a used t480 off of eBay a few weeks ago $150 and I highly recommend it. Super easy to open and upgrade. Got extra ram and a larger battery for less than $70 and it’ll last all day on battery power. I like it so much I’m about to order one for my son, who’s starting college.

I just keep some wet wipes with me so I can stay squeaky clean everywhere I go. Bidet is the way

What kind of rice cooker? I use my instant pot to cook rice in now, but have been thinking about getting an Asian style rice cooker for a while now.

I used to do this at flea markets a few years ago. Find they nastiest, rusted cast iron I could find and then restore it to use in my kitchen. It’s really easy and doesn’t cost hardly anything to do. I have close to 10 really nice pieces cast iron cookware in my kitchen now.

Great list, especially about the clothing. I’m in the process of replacing all of my synthetic clothing, I absolutely hate that crap. The only thing I can see myself wearing tech material again is when run. If i can wear Merino wool to run in the summer then I will, synthetic clothes just radiate odors like crazy

Absolutely. People don’t realize how much they spend on coffee and energy drinks and it can be done at home for super cheap

You seen to have posted to the wrong asklemmy post. The one you’re looking for was about being more active.

Yeah I’m easy more active here that on Reddit, though I was very active when Reddit was younger. It just got too big and lost that feeling of taking to actual people and contributing to the overall experience.

Just got back from Canada and I had the same experience. The workers were really friendly, but everyone else was kind of assholes. Felt like I was back in LA with everyone having their head up their own asses. Shocked me cause I always hear how friendly Canadians are.
And the food is super bland, but the country is gorgeous and the weather was great
That’s what I do, but they were mentioning that they wanted to browse all, but the memes were ruining it for them. I’m usually on all so I can keep an eye out for new communities to join
