Upsidedownturtle@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is the pasta shape you dislike the most?4·5 个月前💯 Spaghetti, linguine, and similarly shaped pastas are the worst form factor. It holds virtually no sauce, which is the highlight of most pasta dishes. Conversely, spirals, wagon wheels, and texas shaped pastas are great because they have very high sauce:pasta ratios.

Nearly every niche community I’ve joined has essentially died due to not having the critical mass of users to support that community. Hell, even look at the large states like California or Texas: they’re communities with only a few hundred active users and maybe a couple thousand joined. Feels like the lemmy is mostly us politics, star trek, Germans, and memes.
Upsidedownturtle@lemmy.worldto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•They say “anyone can become president”, but this will be the first presidential election since 1970s, where there is no Bush, Clinton, or Biden on the ballot.0·8 个月前It is also just one man. No parents, siblings, children, spouses like the Bushs or Clintons. No one is getting all uppity about politicians like Glitch McConnell having decades in the senate.

Upsidedownturtle@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•Phoenix, Arizona, hits its 100th consecutive day of 100F weather161·9 个月前It was primarily settled as a farming community at the confluence of two rivers to support nearby gold mines. Prior to that native Americans had a fair amount of canal works to provide irrigation to agriculture in the region. At the time it would have been seen as good fertile land, free from rocks and boulders that was beyond the frost line prime for agriculture if they brought fresh water from the nearby rivers.
Upsidedownturtle@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•Donald Trump lays blame for assassination attempt on Biden and Harris2·9 个月前Well, if Biden/Harris let him win in ‘20 then he wouldn’t have had to campaign in’ 24 and thus wouldn’t have been in an open field vulnerable to nutjobs taking potshots at him.

Upsidedownturtle@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•Musk plans to give $45 mln a month to new pro-Trump PAC, WSJ reports2·11 个月前One thing to note is pac money is less efficient than campaign money. Campaigns get the lowest rate for advertisements while pacs pay market rate. Super pacs technically can’t coordinate with campaigns so there isn’t a unified message, however the FEC is pretty toothless so any coordination would likely have to be very blatant for action to be taken. Their advertisements can also be overly biased by their ultra wealthy donors, ie something that musk cares about a lot may not have significant sway on the public which can cause said ad to be wasted.
Upsidedownturtle@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•‘Will I ever retire?’: millennials wonder what’s on the other side of middle age4·1 年前Exactly. SS is too popular. There will be some sort of reform/funding, but congress will wait to the least minute to fix a problem. See any sort of continuing resolution government funding bill or the last time SS had problems back in the 80s. The '83 reform only occurred a mere months prior to insolvency. The fact that SS is still years/decades from major problems means it’s someone else’s problem to our elected representatives.
Upsidedownturtle@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why don't electric car manufacurers put solar panels on the car roofs?8·1 年前The newest revision of the prius has an option for rooftop solar. The break even point is relatively long, in the 5-8 year time frame iirc. The energy generation isn’t massive; at 185w it won’t substantially extend the range something like 5 miles per day.
Upsidedownturtle@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•Thousands of US Uber and Lyft drivers plan Valentine's Day strikes10·1 年前Somehow I don’t believe their numbers. Average $30/hr and $23/hr after expenses. IRS milage is $0.67/mi. Are they really saying über drivers are only driving about 10 miles every hour, or are they just offloading that working expense onto drivers and only accounting for the ~$3 per gallon fuel consumption?
Upsidedownturtle@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•Donald Trump spent over $52 million in PAC donor money on legal fees last year. Here's where it all went.6·1 年前Definitely has some strategic value. According to polls a sizable fraction have said they wouldn’t vote for a convicted candidate, so in effort to not lose voters he has to delay cases past the election or obtain not guilty verdicts.

Upsidedownturtle@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If Trump loses in 2024, do you think he'd run in 2028?271·1 年前I’d bet if he loses in '24 his health will start declining quickly and will use health related reasons as a means to avoid punishment for crimes committed.
