Incorrect. Linux can run on conputers from the 1990s. That computer is newer than that. It is not the minimum requirements.

Just use matrix or xmpp. Signal is centralized. If they stop offering the service it’s gone forever.

1·20 days agoI haven’t tried PieFed yet. Gemini/Gopher allows people to self-host a personal page without the bloat of html/css and without advertisements. I like reading personal blogs. Also Lagrange Gemini browser is just a beautiful software visually on its own.

7·21 days agoI also prefer your recommendations. I would add Debian and OpenBSD in the operating systems. Also Lemmy in “social media”. I also believe Lagrange gemini/gopher client should be widely used.

Boycott US@lemmy.ca•‘The whole thing disgusts me’: Australians ditch US travel as new rules require social media to be declaredEnglish
4·2 months agoAs a Canadian I used to travel to the USA. They are just a few hundred kilometers away by car. I have friends there. I haven’t been in a while and let my friends know it wasn’t safe for us to go. They are welcome to go to America’s biggest country to visit us instead. Also I don’t use Facebook or Instagram or Snapchat or whatever.
I live an ad-free life since about 2010. But I do wonder what it’s like to see targeted ads.
I don’t understand how something like that would work on matrix or xmpp. I’m feeling safe for now. With everything happening with digital freedom, I’m afraid someday my digital presence will have to be limited to i2p. There isn’t many services available on it.
