  • I don’t get why people are saying there should be a punishment.

The EU is saying that participation is voluntary, but making the idea that leaving for a bit, just to realise it was wrong, and then to be punished for it to rejoin, feels less voluntary and more you better do what we say or there will be consequences. The idea that it is to deter other countries that aren’t fully in is stupid too. Why not just let them leave and then realise it’s wrong when it happens and come back?

Like if a family member that I know and love hurts me and leaves, I’d eventually welcome them back and let bygones be bygones, because we are a team. But if it’s some coworker I don’t care about, I’d want to be made right for the troubles.

If the idea of the EU is to be a coalition of allies, why are people thinking of punishing bad behaviour as opposed to rewarding learning and improving behaviour?

I may seem bias because I am from the UK, but I have always been a remainer and I would feel the same if France or Spain or whatever left instead, or if they do in the future.

It’s good to let the leavers feel a taste of how bad it is to do it, but joining should always be a good thing and not a punishment.

  • It would be nice if there was more of this stuff for horrors or thrillers.

Like when a bad guy is caught or killed at the end, I’d like to see the reactions of everyone else. Or even the good guys or whatever.

Like how the families or the world at a whole moved on from the events. If anyone got arrested.

Like with Obsession, what happened to the girl at the end?? Did she end up in prison for everyone’s death?

Or I recently watched one called The Watcher. What happened with the main girl? There’s gotta be some trauma there, she couldn’t have just gone to normal life. What happened with her husband that never believed her?

  • I am not in USA. I don’t know about him, and nobody I know knows of him. He isn’t Jesus. He is nobody as far as I know, and religious text does not talk about whatever rich man in a rich country is trending at the moment.

It may seem problematic to you specifically that someone around you is popular and spreading hate, but if you look a bit further around the world, he isn’t anything. Most religious people overall don’t know about him, especially when you consider that there are many religions besides Christianity too.

  • I don’t know about him but it doesn’t change what I originally said.

Billions of people are religious, if they were all so problematic, the world would not function as it does now.

The reality is most people are quietly following their religion alone at home. Some crazy guy is gonna be louder and more on TV, but that doesn’t mean he represents all.

It’s really funny when you look at “leftist” Americans for example. They say they didn’t vote for Trump so don’t judge them for his actions, but they ignore that no religious people got to vote for any of those radical and loud few in a position of power either.

  • But there is no censorship of media being suggested here.

Simply a warning at the start of the movie to say “If you don’t like that it could be considered blasphemous, then don’t watch it” same for your kids or whatever.

This may seem a bit different, but it’s the only example I can think of to explain my view. I’m into True Crime podcasts, but often, if the podcast includes crimes against children, there will be special warnings ahead of every episode. Simply because it upsets a lot of people and they don’t want to hear it.

I hold the view that wether you agree or not with another persons views, there is no need to be offensive.

Adding a letter in front of a movie that says “this may be offensive to anyone with the well known religious beliefs” hurts nobody.

  • If you’re just going to find any religious nutso to make your argument, I don’t think you’re really arguing in good faith.

I watched the Teletubies a lot in my teenage years with my baby sister and there was no mention of religion I can remember. Someone guy carrying a handbag is offensive to homophobes, nothing to do with religion at all.

This whole topic was about adding a B as part of warnings for media, to specifically warn people that might be upset if it happens to specifically be offensive about religion. I don’t see why that could be a bad thing when a quick Google search is saying 85% of the world is identifying as religious.

  • I find most things are generally just not offensive at all when it comes to religion just because they don’t include anything relating to it anyway.

Sure you can just slap a B on everything and it’ll sorta agree with what I originally said, in a way, except needlessly alienate some people? Is media not made for profit and trying to please as many consumers as possible?

Although, I guess it’ll trigger some of these people replying to my comments who like to go off at the mention of any religion lol

  • It’s ridiculous how some people disregard things like blasphemy. You’d think Atheists who believe in science would know better at least.

I am religious but not in an extreme way. I don’t care what is shown or what others think.

But if something on TV is blasphemous, it would upset A LOT of people. That isn’t an opinion, it is simply a fact, like it or not.

If the majority of the world is going to be religious, it will have to be catered to, or else a lot of people will make a fuss.

  • I’ve always felt like as long as you’re in English speaking places in the web, you’ll get mostly Americans anyway as they have the largest English speaking population.

Like when I see family members or friends with a different native language online, they are always usually following people and pages in their own language.

Nobody defaults to Americanism in Arabic spaces for example.

So there will always be a majority of Americans on English language websites, and that’s why it always be American centric.
