Technology@beehaw.org•This app lets restaurants and coffee shops charge to use the bathroom
33·2 years agoThere are plenty of public toilets that charge a small fee. Train stations and airports for example. Also at gas stations it’s pretty common. But I have never seen it at a restaurant or bar. Maybe sometimes there’s a sign that says it’s 50 cents for non-customers or something. But never for customers.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Whats something that is only worth getting the expensive version of?
1·2 years agoI’m from Europe, so we don’t have that brand here. I used Sikkens Alpha Rezisto. It’s washable and scrub resistant. Perfect since I have pets and kids.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Whats something that is only worth getting the expensive version of?
4·2 years agoInterior wall paints (and rollers/brushes). I recently remodeled my house.and decided to buy the really good stuff instead of just the well known brands from the DIY store. Man, what a difference that makes. Painting is sooo much easier and it dries much nicer.

Patient Gamers@sh.itjust.works•What games can you not get into because they feel too outdated?
8·2 years agoI really liked Witcher 2 though. It’s a good game.

1·2 years agoOh man, that cringe-worthy. Thanks for the late reply!

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's the oldest piece of tech you still have running?
2·2 years agoI have a Vendomatic sewing machine form the late '70s or early '80s. Still works like a charm. I still use it a couple of times per year to make/fix clothes or sew badges on my heavy metal jacket
I would like to put my hat in the ring for Aliens: Fireteam Elite. It was recently free on Playstation Plus but I missed it by a single day. My wife has taken over the Playstation so I’ve been gaming on my laptop, and I forgot to keep up with the monthly games. I’d love to play it though!

12·2 years agoNow I’m really curious. Can you post those supposedly original lyrics?

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•People outside of the USA: What are some interesting, cool, or fascinating aspects of your country you'd like to share with the world?
31·2 years agoA lot of DA’s in the US trump up charges and add anything they can think of, often in order to scare the defendant into settling out of court. I believe some 97% of cases in the US are settled out of court. That doesn’t happen over here.
My 80 old father-in-law spams emoticons like he’s a 15 year old girl. Cringe-worthy and hillarious at the same time 😂

61·2 years agoYou’re not part of the United States of America, but you’re still part of the continent of North America.

232·2 years agoEh, not legally. It’s illegal but condoned (up to 5 gram, for personal use only). Meaning they won’t arrest or prosecute you for it, but technically you are still beaking the law. I guess in theory some DA could add it along with other charges. But since we don’t have a US-style kangaroo court system, this never happens.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Whats the difference between cheap and expensive modern TVs?
151·2 years agoHave you seen them side by side? The difference between backlit LCD and OLED is massive. It’s a much greater jump in quality than going from 4k to 8k (which IMHO is barely noticable)

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some strange and interesting websites you have found?
3·2 years agoAhhh yes. Lemonparty, Goatse, Tubgirl. Those were the days. I used to be a forum admin back in the day. I banned sooo many people trying to spam that shit.

Patient Gamers@sh.itjust.works•Monthly Recommendations Thread: What are you playing?
3·2 years agoI’m playing DOOM: Eternal too, but I can’t play it for just 30 minutes or so. I really need to finish a level in one sitting, or else I’m utterly confused when I jump back in. So for me I really need to set aside a solid 2 hours or more in order to play it.
It’s not about clicks, it’s about attribution. That is also why they all want to track you. It’s not just about targeting ads. If you buy something in a webshop and the advertiser can show that you saw a (related) ad for that somewhere in the last X days/weeks then the sale is attributed to the advertiser and they get paid a fee. That is why they want to track anything and everything. The more data they collect, the higher the chance they can show attribution. No clicks required.
