  • Yes.

Thanks to Blorp’s impressive search function, I could see that there is a community but it quickly disappeared. I had to unblock the instance in order to join the community. My time and experience online has been delightful IMO due to my ever-growing block list. I only know about 80+ people IRL who have that instance blocked and that’s not a lot.

IMO, many Blorp users will follow the community regardless. This seems to be a strong community that would be willing to support other Blorp users and that’s what really matters.

PieFed sounds lovely, I might end up there.

  • No explanation and other details were issued regarding Torre’s relief.

Reporters also sought Torre’s comment, but he has yet to respond as of posting time.

Torre recently made rounds on social media for his charity boxing match against acting Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte, where he was declared the winner by default after Duterte failed to show up.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. himself joked about the matter during his State of the Nation Address, where he hailed the country’s boxing heroes before including Torre — calling him the new boxing champion.

  • Brave and DuckDuckGo because they’re cross-platform and give you the option to sync your bookmarks.

DuckDuckGo has Duck Player which I use if I need to watch something on YouTube, I have it set to open in a new window and no ads.

I like Brave because it’s fast and the search is fairly accurate. You can add a video to it’s Playlist for later viewing. Brave gives you the share option to Copy Clean Link.

I used (and loved Firefox) until they revoked their promise of not selling user data and seems sluggish for the past several months, but I still use Firefox Focus.

I use both android and iOS which is why I prefer cross-platform software.

  • This article is from The Guardian:

On the advice of various experts, people are locking down social media, deleting photos and private messages, removing facial recognition, or even traveling with “burner” phones to protect themselves.

In Canada, multiple public institutions have urged employees to avoid travel to the US, and at least one reportedly told staff to leave their usual devices at home and bring a second device with limited personal information instead.

It seems like you already know what you’re doing and I agree with everyone else: backup your data and reinstall later. Create an iCloud account specifically for travel purposes.

This article mentions someone who opted to delete their social media accounts before coming to the US. So don’t be surprised or offended when some of us start deleting our comments, lol. Good luck.

EDIT: As long as you have a travel account you shouldn’t need Advanced Data Protection but perhaps after you/she reaches her destination.

  • Voyager still works for me but it’s a bit slow (which could be anything). I use Arctic when reading articles and posts but I’m not logged in.

Depending on your experience, you have several options. If you want to stay with Voyager, you can do some troubleshooting:
remove the app completely, restart your device, then download it again. Then, I had to do that Σ(-᷅_-᷄๑) again. I was not happy but it eventually worked out. The key ingredient was patience, lol.

However, before you do anything make sure you save your settings. For Voyager, it’s a .JSON file which you can save on your phone (don’t forget where you put it). I saved mine on Session or save it in the Files app on iOS. You will have to log in again so keep that password handy.

Another good thing about the Voyager app is it’s community. You can subscribe, peruse posts or post your issues at: !voyagerapp@lemmy.world

If someone has experienced the same problem, they will help you out. Someone reached out to me when I had problems with Voyager.

I don’t know if Arctic has been abandoned but it still works for me, again not logged in. Mlem for iOS was updated less than a month ago and somebody just praised Blorp and it’s dev team, so you can check those two out if you have time. I haven’t had a chance to play with Thunder yet.

Good luck! If you can, please let me know how it works out. I still come back to this post when I’m interested in an app and prefer opinions from real people.

EDIT: If you use PieFed, the Blorp app supports it.

  • The races are fun competitions where sabotage, costume, and presentation, and other efforts are rewarded; some cities offer a “Best in Show” prize.[1] Sabotage, such as tripping competitors, throwing marbles or large obstacles in their paths, and the spreading of misinformation such as false route information, were common in the early years. A push for “leave no trace” actions has been promoted recently.

For a moment I thought Wikipedia incorrectly spelled Iditarod. Lol. Thanks, OP. This is why I like Lemmy.

  • Ditto on used flatscreen (not-smart tv) from thrift shops; they’re light enough that you can take it with you when you move.

$500-$1000 is a good budget so you can buy new (non-smart tv) at the big box stores.

Yes, you should consider a good projector and a white bed sheet from the same thrift shop and iron it (I speak from experience). If the acoustics in your room is good then you may not need to spend a lot of money on speakers/headphones.

My friend couldn’t find black bed sheets so she bought the ugly stained ones and dyed them black and put them behind the curtains. We were able to do this setup in her backyard for the kids, too.

I also used a pre-primed canvas with my easel and worked just fine as soon as I got the angle right. Both came from JoAnn Fabric when they were closing the stores (maybe $35?). However, my Bose speakers and Sennheiser headphones were not cheap. Living in concrete and 2 different types of insulated walls are probably the reason why the acoustics suck.

That setup was so portable and worked really well that when my friend borrowed it she told me I wasn’t getting it back. You need to decide what you want to spend top dollar on: VR headset, projector, TV, etc. I’m actually curious how you end up with your entertainment setup. Good luck.

EDIT: I gave my old Harman Kardon speakers and subwoofer (from my old PC) to my friend and it still sounded good.
