Upvote because it fits the original better, but I’m protesting the Yar slander.

2·1 month agoI was thinking about just downloading all the eps for safekeeping … if I don’t get to it I’ll just hope that there’s a reasonably priced access tier that’s add free (or has only dynamic current/changing host reads, I don’t mind them toooo much).
PS: I found something to support on MaxFun: RePhrasing, an Archer rewatch podcast hosted by Amber Nash (Pam’s VA).

2·1 month agoI was honestly surprised by how much of a reaction I had to this news! Now that a couple of days have passed I think I figured out what inked me so much about this change.
I actually am a big fan of MaxFun. The Adventure Zone got me into D&D and I dig the whole worker-owned network where artists own their shows thing. I also liked that the network was a place where shows like TGG could find their audience!
I don’t listen to any other MaxFun shows (who has the time!) so I’ll probably stop sending money to a project I liked, because I have reached my limit of subscriptions and patrons and I want to continue to listen to and support that silly stat trek podcast.
Anyway, I wonder how they’re actually handle the technical side of things. A different podcast I support recently moved back to Patreon after using Supercast for a while. I hope they’ll find some setup that works for them.

4·1 month agoIt is a little disappointing to me that they’ll be leaving MaxFun. I’ll have to decide if I want to continue to support the network or greatest gen going forward.
I hope the new non-MaxFun ads won’t be too bad …

33·3 months agoHey Karim! Thank you for your work on SFA, really enjoying the show!
Star Trek has done a bunch of genre-bending episodes (mostly on the holodeck), like noir-type crime stories, medieval costume dramas, or western adventures. If you could chose: What genre/setting would you like to put Jay-Den into?

51·3 months agoI think the key message is about letting other people enjoy things even if you personally don’t. I like Star Trek but if there are no good new stories to be told, I’m ok with there not being any more new Star Trek. We’ll always have the old stuff.
Communities that are just build around vocally disliking something (based on taste) are usually not the greatest places.

3·4 months agoHow great is Tawny Newsome? Hope they’ll put her in (charge of) more new-trek stuff.
Regarding the episode: I didn’t know about the Sisko plot before, but after they called SAM an emissary and that chewy jumja stick popped into frame, I was convinced we’d get a DS9 episode.

8·4 months agoI’m currently rewatching DS9 so I enjoyed this episode thoroughly. The show’s really growing on me.
I’d love to know if it actually resonates with audiences in the age group our cadets are in.
And Tawny Newsome as Professor Illa (last name redacted) was a treat!

1·4 months agoBen and Adam really have a point about characters not calling each other by their names regularly. I’d take less naturalistic writing over better remembering character names any day.

17·4 months agoI like seeing the personal growth of these characters kicking in early. And that we don’t only focus on Caleb. When’s my Jay-den episode coming?
And while I didn’t think I‘d like the post-burn setting, it gives our characters a reason to reiterate what Star Fleet and the Federation stand for. In the classic shows, there wasn’t really a reason so argue what the federation is supposed to be (because it was objectively extremely successful the way it was). I enjoy seeing our characters rebuilding this utopia.

1·8 months agoI never really watched TOS (except a few clips here and there) and I was positively surprised by this episode! Cool sci-fi story (love a doppelganger infiltration) and good pacing!
I adore the plant monster puppet that was so clearly just a hand in a glove with plant/flower stuff glued to it.

It’s not Keating’s fault, the performance is fine. It’s just the character that bums me out.

Man, I like Bones, he seems like a chill guy, but I have no idea if he’s good at his job, because we never seem him do anything.
When Khan gets broken out of his sleep pod and is in medical distress, Bones just sits there and waits. Not even scanning him or anything. Khan lives because he refuses to die, apparently.
He’s giving good advice, so I’m glad he’s around. But my head canon from now on is that Bones has no idea what he’s doing and is there by mistake.
