No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What does everyone think of the economic outlook for the next year?
3·7 days agoIt’s bad for regular folks. There are some people swimming in money because of everything you have mentioned.
Just the other day I have read that the USA has depleted most of its bomb stock in the Iran war and it will take years to replenish. Translation: weapon makers are guaranteed orders for new bombs at least for the next few years.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Apple generously 'reducing' live temperatures by almost 10°CEnglish
2·7 days agoThat’s a negligible difference. Also the sources might use different prediction models. The temperature on the apps is the predicted, not the actual temperature. Go to your local airport website for actual temperature readings (at that location).

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Are there any communities where people have real intellectually honest discusions?
2·7 days agoEven if people are engaging in good faith: reading comprehension, and intellectual rigor are at all time lows.
Indeed.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•In the US, why doesn't a personal savings account make more sense than health insurance?
3·7 days agoHad to scroll way too far for this. This is exactly what op is describing, and if it works for him, and people like him, it’s a viable choice. For most people, it’s a poor choice however.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Any Other Guys wish they were short/shorter
1·7 days agoI am 6 feet tall male and while I don’t feel particularly tall, I am still slightly taller than the statistical average American male, making it rather inconvenient. Clothes are too short, cars and power equipment is too short, bed is too short, tables, chairs and countertops are too short, ceilings are too short…

World News@lemmy.world•‘Disposable’ operatives for hire are a new menace for western countriesEnglish
2·9 days agoLook up the definition of professional in the dictionary. If you get paid for a job, your are a professional. Level of experience or skill is not part of the definition.
It’s only weird because it’s all in one bowl. If you move the cottage cheese and hot spice to a separate bowl, it is no longer weird, even if you eat both at the same time.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Has/is there ever been a creature that reproduces with creatures of another species?
8·9 days agoThat’s sort of impossible by definition.
One of the ways we have defined a species is that it can’t breed with another species, be it due to bio mechanics (the sex organs don’t match), or genetics (mismatched chromosomes etc). Humans have tried to create hybrids of closely related species like horses and donkeys, but the resulting mule is sterile. See also tiger lion hybrids etc.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How are you using your laptop (with internet) that still runs Windows10?
1·11 days agoThe laptop I received from work still runs win 10. I don’t think work it cares one bit, and I suspect I will get a win 11 replacement only if this one dies.

News@lemmy.world•Florida biologist fired over Charlie Kirk post after his death wins $485K settlement
111·9 days agoInteresting that she sued claiming her position was so specialized she couldn’t find any work, but as part of the settlement she agreed to drop the reinstatement request/not seek any further employment with the state agency.

9·15 days agoShhh, you are not supposed to know that…
Yeah, if you want hunting gear, pretty sure camo is your only color choice. Kind like HenryFord with his any color as long as it’s black. I am not a hunter so what do I know.
but the other day I was looking for a long sleeve summer shirt to wear on walks/jogging this summer (I hate sunscreen), and ended up with a shirt for fishing. Every lightweight loose fitting long sleeve synthetic shirt was advertised as fishing gear. I guess I am a wannabe fisherman now.

Cooking @lemmy.world•Risotto with Japanese rice and three kinds of Japanese mushrooms
2·21 days agoItalian rice, i.e Arborio, is a type of Japanese rice. I cooked some the other day and in my opinion, the difference between Arborio and sushi rice is negligible.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What habit do you possess that seems very normal to you, but would seem odd to anyone else?
4·25 days agoSomeone correct me, but I believe the gear pattern in a manual transmission does not change between right hand and left hand cars.

To anyone confused as I was, they are talking about a location in Mexico roughly 31 miles away from the USA border, not 31 miles of border length.
