I fear that instead of an era of reform, the response to this act of violence and to the widespread rage it has ushered into view will be limited to another round of retreat by the wealthiest.

I wonder if the general public will face collective retaliation. If the rich feel secure, they’re going to want to put people in thier place.

If Trump somehow can eliminate taxes on social security, the fund will have to reduce benefits sooner than projected. The cut will only benefit 40% of recipients that pay taxes, and that lack of extra funds comming into the system will bring it closer to insolvency, sooner rather than later. So unless your brother is one the 40% that will immediately benefit from the tax cut, he’ll get to look forward to lower payments sometime in the nearer future.

I kinda think it would have been a better investment if they created some sort of local farm, of some kind.

It doesn’t help with name brand products, but it would give the community fresh food, some employment, and some extra revenue. Dry goods and other products are deliverable, and much of it is not required for survival. I mean we are talking food deserts.

They could experiment with which farming techniques would be better suited to carry us into out changing climate. Maybe become a model for other farms to follow.

Not exactly what you asked, but the only problem I’ve found with Subaru (crosstrek / legacy) is lack of pick up. It’s worth it to shell out for even a slightly upgraded engine. (crosstrek wilderness) If thats important to you and you read a review that says it’s a problem, absolutely believe it. It hasn’t bordered on dangerous, but it is very noticeable at times.

Other than that 100,000+ miles later and some regular upkeep and there has been absolutely no issues. Shifts fine, although sometimes the rpms hit higher than I’m used to.

I do believe the WRX is manual if that’s more your style, and there are Crosstreks (which is essentially an Impreza with more clearance. Even people at the dealership have accidentally called it that) and Foresters that are strictly automatic, or so they say.

Oh, and the windshield wipers are lame. It’s like the windshield is too big for the wipers, and the wipers move to slow. If it starts pouring outside, be prepared to be driving 90% blind. Rainx barely helps.

Also, depending on what you move, make sure to take into account areas with drought, and future rain and heat patterns. Climate change is only going to get worse. Make sure you have a secure water supply to work with.

You get some gear. It’s nice, but heavy…then you realize there’s so much lighter stuff out there.

$100/lbs later your congratulating yourself that your base weight is 15lbs until you add food and water, and you realize that your pack still is too heavy. You finally shave off another 2 lbs by buying all new luxury items at $30-$50 a pop, and getting a lighter stove.

Then winter comes, and that 4 season, dyneema tent looks mighty appealing. Not to mention you need a better rated sleeping bag (cause that hammock ain’t gonna cut it) and a pad, a better puffy and fleece, crampons, maybe an ice pick, and another stove that works in the cold…

Edit. Damn it, I forgot I need new shoes…even if I wanted to brave it using my summer pair, those trail running shoes are destroyed over the course of 1 season.
