There’s a guy on YouTube doing videos about his haunted apartment “but the rent is really, really really cheap!” Part of the gag is that there’s a doppelganger that keeps trying to talk him into going into the basement, and will try to trick you too. The bit is all kinds of craziness, it’s pretty fun.

News@lemmy.world•Starbucks to cut 900 jobs and close dozens of North American stores as sales struggle
2·3 months agoYears ago my only exposure to coffee was through Dunkin and Starbucks. In 2021 I splurged on a breville bambino plus and grinder to try making my own because regularly purchasing from either was too costly.
I don’t consider myself a coffee snob either (the shots I pull probably taste like shit to anyone who knows better) but I’ve learned to make a latte that tastes good to me! Since then I’ve been given Starbucks gift cards around the holidays, and damn - they’re almost painful to use but have their place in an emergency. It’s totally the thought that counts.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•THIS JUST IN: FBI suspects Kirk was likely targeted, more info to come
24·3 months agoHey, I live in the Chicago burbs and can tell you that I was at Lou’s picking up my pizza at the same time the shooter was ordering his at the counter, so it couldn’t have been him.
I radially dice my onion. To me it seems like the horizontal and vertical cuts leave more uneven bits considering the layers already present. I angle my “vertical” cuts towards the center, then start chopping.

News@lemmy.world•Republicans ask Supreme Court to block 40,000 Arizonans from voting in November
16·1 year ago“Why does one of the parties fight against people voting?”
In general, high voter turn out leans left.
And each state determines the rules for voting. I’m in Illinois, so when I register I’m assigned a polling place. When I go there to vote, I give them my name (no need for ID) they find it in a book, I sign a thing and they give me a ballot and tear off a receipt that I keep. I’m in a traditionally Democratic/blue State.
Republican/Red states tend to do what they can to make voting harder, like frequent purging of voter registration (and not notifying people that they’re not registered anymore) or making it nearly impossible to vote by mail, then require voting in person and limiting the number of places you can vote to the point people stand in line for hours. Oh yeah, then make it illegal to offer people waiting in line a bottle of water.

News@lemmy.world•Scientists find humans age dramatically in two bursts – at 44, then 60
2·1 year agoI’ve worn contacts for almost 40 years, but got tired of using readers these last several years to be able to, you know, read. After unsuccessfully trying multivocal contacts, I got progressive glasses. My vision? GREAT? The 3 weeks it took to get my brain used to moving my head more and my eyes just right (especially while driving) so that seeing the right part of my prescription wasn’t swinging all over the place and making me nauseous? Fucking hell. That was absolute torture. It’s worth it on the other side at least.
I do kinda miss contacts. I may get a second opinion for my prescription and try again.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's an unusual but excellent food combo you've tried?
4·2 years agoI love using Hawaiian rolls/buns/bread for like, anything really lol.
Yep - if it’s an expense I have to pay monthly anyway and might as well use one card for my expenses then pay it off every month and reap the rewards points/cash back.

News@lemmy.world•New York man sentenced to 25 years to life for fatally shooting woman who pulled into wrong driveway
14·2 years agoNope - absolutely the same here. There’s typically a stretch of property facing the street and potentially in an adjacent alley where the homeowner is responsible for basic maintenance (mowing the grass) but it’s used for utility access and may be taken off they decide to widen the roads. I’m sure exceptions exist, but less commonly.

5·2 years agoThey do, just not in the units you’re familiar with. They do calories per serving, and very commonly servings per package (in cases where people may be likely to eat the entire thing.) When listing serving sizes, where appropriate the serving sizes is described (how many pieces) and a weight in grams is listed.
Here’s an example (haven’t gotten around to posting images - sorry for the link.)

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What are some things you can/should cheap out on?

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is it okay to wash hands with body soap?
4·2 years agoI support you on the moisturizing thing, but can’t follow you down the coconut oil road. I can’t stand the smell of coconut. Being someone who burns easily in the sun, I chalk it up to many years of smelling shitty fake coconut scented sunblock products.
As a massage therapist, I have to wash my hands constantly. During the colder months I have to moisturize or my skin cracks. Whatever unscented product that doesn’t leave me leaving greasy fingerprints all over the place is usually good enough until I wash my hands again in another hour.

YES!!! I appreciate you finding that. I’m between patients on sketchy mobile so it’s hard to find things sometimes.
