柊 つかさ@lemmy.worldto Anime@ani.social•[Episode] CITY THE ANIMATION - Episode 10 discussionEnglish3·3 days agoAh they did my guilty pleasure: temporary tomboy feminization. When the tomboy gets dressed in girly things for a moment. It was really funny when Oni came to get his soba. I also like the parts with the old men they have a real good vibe together.
柊 つかさ@lemmy.worldto Anime@ani.social•[Episode] CITY THE ANIMATION - Episode 10 discussionEnglish3·3 days agoWhen he sings those songs it is quite language heavy and might not translate well to people who are not fluent in Japanese. Same thing with western fans calling Nichijou surreal at places where there is actually a joke but it is language based so it seems absurd.
While not widespread, I hope this will not stop you. If you want this kind of peace in your life, I strongly suggest disregarding contemporary conventions and just doing it. There is a norm of always having your phone and always being available, but you may depart from this norm. Everyone is used to me being “off the grid”. In a sense, this is an act of setting boundaries.
You can still do that :) I regularly go out without my phone.
Interesting, does this make you think of the 70s? The manga and anime are from the 90s and 2000s.
柊 つかさ@lemmy.worldto Anime@ani.social•[Episode] CITY THE ANIMATION - Episode 9 discussionEnglish5·10 days agoI don’t think it was explicit yet but Wako called Riko “imouto”. They have different hair colours so that’s kinda rare but makes sense that best girls are sisters. Also Riko can do hacking crashes the crazy vehicle. This is why you don’t add internet capabilities to shit that doesn’t need it (like a scooter or a fridge).
There is indeed an error in the graphic.
柊 つかさ@lemmy.worldto Anime@ani.social•[Episode] CITY THE ANIMATION - Episode 8 discussionEnglish4·16 days agoMany like Riko. Understandable. Tanabe has one-eyed daruma like Nano. And the text on the police officer’s hat is definitely a reference the the dudes in green jackets from Nichijou, right?
I have been meaning to post there myself, but I haven’t got around to it yet.
General slice of life art with no relation to an anime is best placed at !imaginarysliceoflife@lemmy.dbzer0.com
I think this pose would break my knees or pop my legs outta my hips.
柊 つかさ@lemmy.worldto Anime@ani.social•[Discussion] What anime triggered a new interest in you?English11·1 month agoA long time ago I watched shounen only, I didn’t know any better. I randomly started watching Gintama and I realised that I liked the non-action parts a lot. It made me interested in things that weren’t mostly action and was the first step of me getting into slice of life anime. And SOL made me more interested in daily life and existing. That sounds ridiculous but hey.
In my opinion these mechanical pens are like 1 step forward and 10 steps back. Just more parts that can break. I don’t even trust slip caps, they can get loose with time. I personally would only buy screw caps. They work and keep working. Sometimes the old/simple stuff is better.

柊 つかさ@lemmy.worldOPMto Slice of Life Anime@lemmy.world•友達の誕生日前になると送られてくるぼっちのメッセージ by カツヲ [Hitori Bocchi]English2·1 month ago友達の誕生日前になると送られてくるぼっちのメッセ
- 友達, tomodachi, friend
- の, no
- 誕生日, tanjoubi, birthday
- 前に, maeni, before
- なる, naru, to become / to come
- と, to
- 送(る), oku(ru), to send,
- られてくる, raretekuru, passive form
- ぼっち, bocchi, name of the character in the picture
- の, no
- メッセージ, messeeji, message
“A message sent by Bocchi before a friend’s birthday”
I know the られ form but られてくる form not so much.
来週ントカちゃんの 誕生日だよー!
- 来週, raishuu, next week
- ントカちゃん, sotoka-chan, sotoka is another character in the show
- の, no
- 誕生日, tanjoubi, birthday
- だよー!, dayoo!
“Next week is Sotoka-chan’s birthday you know!”
I don’t know why the translation struggled with the names so much especially in the last one. The first one, deeple came out with “A message by a lonely person” which makes sense because she named after being a loner.
柊 つかさ@lemmy.worldto Anime@ani.social•When was the first time you cried over an anime?English1·1 month agoProbably Gintama, I don’t know exactly at what point. I definitely remember watching Gintoki vs Takasugi and having to rewind because I couldn’t see shit through my tears.
I started out with a TWM so I had to.
I don’t know specifically about animation humor but some general language based things will not easily translate from English to Japanese.
I’m not fluent at all so don’t take my word for it.
