BillTheTailor@lemmy.mlto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•With the talk about bird flu affecting egg prices...7·5 months agoI think this is the answer. It can take a hen several months to start laying; meat chickens are typically harvested in six to twelve weeks.

I don’t know if that’s the case of other counties in my state, but it wouldn’t surprise me at all.

BillTheTailor@lemmy.mlto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How to prevent cats from shitting on my lawn?!?32·2 years agoHow is hurting a feral cat a criteria for what he is allowed to do? A coyote would certainly have no compunction, why should he?

No. Raised in the faith but never truly believed.
It’s logically dishonest to say “There are no gods.” How do you prove there isn’t something? Maybe you just can’t see it right now. Agnostic atheist is the only logical position one could take.

Decide what you want to do and learn what you need to do that. Tell me something you’d be interested in doing…
BillTheTailor@lemmy.mlto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is your "inexpensive" hobby that turned out to be expensive/ you gradually invested lots of money into?27·2 years agoArduino and hobby electronics. It started out as a continuous loop pad dye machine to save me having to dye fabric by hand, strictly mechanical, but then I wanted to automate adding the chemicals at the right times. Then it was keeping the dye liquor a consistent temperature. Then it was draining the trough automatically. Then I figured out I could design my own PCBs and have them fabricated. It just keeps going…
BillTheTailor@lemmy.mlto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is your "inexpensive" hobby that turned out to be expensive/ you gradually invested lots of money into?4·2 years agoMy degree is in technical theater. I love sets and lighting design, but costuming is where I landed thanks to the local Renaissance festival.

There are better operating systems that don’t make you watch ads, that don’t lock up your filesystem, that don’t force you into upgrades before they’re tested.
BillTheTailor@lemmy.mlto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's your favorite programming language and what about it do you like?1·2 years agoI’m going through all of my company’s apps replacing jquery with vanilla Javascript. I don’t like that Javascript is much more verbose than jquery but I do like not having to be dependent upon a library.
Apropos of nothing, where are you finding domains for $10/year?

BillTheTailor@lemmy.mlto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Lemmy, what do you call users of Lemmy?English0·2 years agoNot a fan of lemmings, since everything we know about them in popular culture is incorrect - they don’t commit mass suicide - and is suicide really the image we want for ourselves? @Lemminary has the right idea.
I’d be okay with that. Golf courses offend me. So much land wasted that could be put to better uses…like landfills, or cemeteries for the indigent, or nuclear waste storage. (Or housing, or growing food.)
