World News@lemmy.world•Live updates: Trump announces sweeping tariffsEnglish
283·10 months agoI swear that if we could just all ignore him unless he does nice things, we’ll make him stop. The tariffs are not his plan. That’s someone else pulling the strings. He just likes the attention. Giving a malignant narcissist any kind of supply is just going to make him worse. His fans already treat him like the messiah.
Gray rock the shit out of him. Remove his name from the internet, hack Fox news - take it all down, and only give it back when he behaves like a good boy.
Trump will do absolutely anything to stay in the news. We are his narcissistic supply. The solution is to ignore him completely.

They were laughing because they were early neckbeards. They probably had 16k of ram on their fancy BBC Micros.

15·11 months agoYup! I remember it so well. I even remember seeing this ad in a magazine and begging my dad to order it… I was 10 years old, and built it with him.
I also remember going to a home computer sale event in my hometown. No shops were selling computer stuff in that town yet. Men with beards and long hair laughing that I was buying 1k Chess to play on my new computer.
The location for that sale was turned into public toilets.

1·11 months agoThe trauma center is in America dumbass. I said I’ve seen fatal stabbings IN AMERICA. I never saw a fatal stabbing IN THE UK, where I did not work in a level one trauma center. Seriously, go fuck yourself.

1·11 months agoIm 53 years old. I’ve seen grizzly bear, shark, and cougar victims. I work in one of the busiest level 1 trauma centers in the world. You know the high profile accidents that make the news? The plane and train crashes? I work in the ER that sees those patients. I couldn’t care less what you think.

154·1 year agoI have worked in Accident & Emergency in England and in an ER in America. Guns are a curse.
You all need to see the deserted dead body of a 15 year old laying on the table after an unsuccessful resuscitation attempt. A baby who has been shot through, or the crowds of relatives helplessly sobbing in the streets outside the emergency room.
Every gun owner thinks they are a responsible gun owner until they arent. Its simply not possible to be 100% safe 100% of the time. That’s not a thing that humans do.
And no. There are nowhere near as many knife deaths in England.
I never saw a fatal stabbing in the UK, but I’ve seen many in America. The numbers are insignificant when compared to gun accidents and murders.
All “tools” that kill this many people should absolutely be regulated.
Americans never shut up about freedom, but don’t pay attention to the freedom taken away simply by the threat that anyone around you could be carrying a gun. You’re all just used to it being your way. It’s so nice not to have to consider the possibility. The american way is like spending your lives with the sword of Damocles dangling over your heads. That’s your freedom.

ADHD@lemmy.world•If I had a nickel for every time someone says "this person's being a huge jerk to me but I think they might be neurodivergent"English
12·1 year agoOk. Fine I get what you’re saying. I read the page from the university i work for, and also Harvards information. I didn’t read wikipedia.
Regardless, the exact same point can be made. Explain to me how this makes the term suitable in the context of this post.
My entire point is that a “neurodivergeant” person is not one kind of person. It’s many different kinds of people. It’s autistic people, it’s people with ADHD. It’s a broad term. I myself was thinking that of course antisocial personality disorder would be neurodivergeant and a reason to be perceived as an asshole. The post makes no sense because to answer it, you would have to evaluate every single kind of neurodivergeant person.

ADHD@lemmy.world•If I had a nickel for every time someone says "this person's being a huge jerk to me but I think they might be neurodivergent"English
13·1 year agoEveryone is neurodivergent. The term is often used to describe people on the autistic spectrum. I think that something along those lines is what you meant to say while you told me to educate myself.
The thing is, championing neurodiversity is good for those on the autistic spectrum, but that doesn’t mean that neurodiversity doesn’t include all the other ways in which no two brains are the same. There is no diagnostic criteria for being neurodivergent. Two neurodivergent people may share no common ground at all.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is it wrong to not have a disabled child solely to avoid forcing the child to suffer their whole life?English

ADHD@lemmy.world•If I had a nickel for every time someone says "this person's being a huge jerk to me but I think they might be neurodivergent"English
43·1 year agoIt’s because the phrase “neurodivergence” is an umbrella term. It’s all but useless in the context given. That’s a fact no matter how cool and breezy you are about people with disabilities.
I have an older brother with cerebral palsy - I know no other life than one that sympathizes with people with disabilities. I dedicated my life to helping children with disabilities. I have worked with children with cerebral palsy, autism, adhd, dyspraxia, downs syndrome, retts syndrome, ALS and many other conditions and brain injuries for a chunk of my life spanning over 20 years. I was treating them from before Ritalin was used to treat patients with ADHD (in England at least).
The term “neurodivergence” is not useful in the context it is used in here. Everyone is neurodivergent, and the terms popularity modern times has tweaked it to mean something else that is not clear. A social media “tag” used as an umbrella term is just that. It’s not a diagnosis or an excuse because it’s not one thing.
It is exactly like saying “i have fibromyalgia” - because that is also an umbrella term that leads to the question, “What does that mean in this context?”
The umbrella term “neurodivergence” includes both conditions that aren’t an excuse and are an excuse for behaving like an asshole. Anyone can claim they are neurodivergent because they are. Therefore some people will use the term as an excuse for behaving badly no matter what their quirks are.

16·1 year agoThere’s no source. It’s a personal anecdote. I’m not writing a scientific journal. From my perspective nobody talked about it until i was in my mid 40’s.

Did anyone actually bother to xray his head?
