the 80s had its own flavor of pretty dark ‘kids’ movies-this one, dark crystal, secret of nimh, neverending story, etc. even the transformers movie had millions of kids’ favorite characters get slaughtered in the first few minutes, and then optimus prime too–all so they could sell us a batch of brand new toys of the replacement characters. i loved every minute

Stuff of nightmares.
Interestingly the insanity ward stuff did not bother me. Still have major respect for the movie now and love the Oz stuff.
