When the hell has Ubuntu been “the lightweight Linux distro”?
2006 or 2007 is my guess. By 2008 it was too much for my computer at the time (a Dell D610).
I think in the first couple of years. Maybe it was an accident.
Agreed. Ubuntu used to be what I would recommend to new users because of the light mental-overhead needed to move from windows. Now there are too many gothas that will show up down the road, Mint or plain old Debian are where it’s at.
