When its convenient, christians follow the new testament. When it’s convenient, they also follow the old testament. Christians quite often pick and choose based on what they currently want to believe.
Jesus, their messiah, says to follow the rules in the OT. Only Paul, a random dude who fell off a horse and had a hallucination, says those are done away with.

Ah, but it depends on the context, because a lot of the more restrictive stuff that they want to force on people are sourced in the Old Testament.
