Complete speculation, but it could be related to the party he’s leading or staff considering how quick the resignation came. Otherwise I am sure he would’ve dragged his heels and said that domestic and professional life are distinct. Apparently there have been some issues within the party in Wales in terms of unity (as demonstrated by the defection).
This doesn’t mean he’s not a nonce - just that the official statement says this is what he was initially arrested for.
