I heard someone in east Germany talk like this, like they lost a war.

I guess they didn’t care that for every 200 citizens there was one Stazi secret police surveilling them.

Rookie numbers, they could’ve been far more efficient with flock cameras

You’d feel like you lost a war too if your country went through what east Germany did during reunification. It can only be described as a looting leaving tens to hundreds of housands without jobs, security or prospects for the future.

        That is awful!

The story i heard was that the east German factories were really unsafe, hadn’t been maintained in years, and had to be closed down.

You literally live in a surveillance state and it is has far more information on you. At least the Stasi was stopping legitimate terror attacks instead of letting them happen to justify imperialist conquest.

Why would not there be Stasi surveillance?

Did not the Nazis have a decent amount of supporters in the populace? And did not kids learn Nazi ideology from schools n society when Nazi’s were ruling?

Why would not the socialists who saw a lot of sacrifices to defeat Nazis have surveillance in a state that was freed from Nazism, but where people may have lingering Nazi support? There would be surveillance and other plans to ensure that Nazism does not come back.

Also, added to that how the Capitalist/Imperialist powers were trying to sabotage them.

But 200 to 1 seems inefficient. What was the number for West Germany? Were they more efficient? Did Western capitalist technology and co-operation with entities like Zee Eye Aye help them to reduce the numbers?
Or were they less interested in such aspects?

I’m sorry there seem to be so many people here who think you’re silly if you neither wanna live in a capitalist surveillance state nor a communist surveillance state. I would much rather not live in a surveillance state at all, so I agree with your point.
