Genuinely the most blatantly corrupt thing I’ve ever seen FIFA do.

It’s over for me. The world cup was never 100% fair, but this is just straight up wild. If political pressure can be used to get FIFA to take away red cards. What’s to say it isn’t being used to tell FIFA to make referees favour a team.

There’s no point in watching a corrupt sport that is speedrunning towards fixed.

I will only be watching the CONIFA world cup from now on.

The World Cup that has been canceled? When is the next one? Even their site doesn’t list a World Cup since 2024

We dunno. Depends when they get visa issues in check.

The problem with hosting a worldcup for stateless people is visa is a nightmare…

I bet. We’ve gotten really into soccer due to this World Cup and are planning on watching leagues outside of just premier league now. May be bandwagon fans but it’s fun.

Are you based in the US? If so, I will say that MLS is really fun to watch. Due to the salary cap and other EXTREMELY arcane salary rules, the league has a ton of parity AND all offense/no defense. Unless you are in KC, DC, Dallas, Houston, or New England, every year can feel like it might be “your year.” You get "MLS After Dark games, where West Coast teams have crazy games late at night.

If US politics and a closed ecosystem throws you off MLS, then Bundesliga can be fun. Bayern will win 99% of the time, but the rest of the league is fun. And their 50+1 rule is amazing.

I’ve heard of bundesliga, I’ll have to look into it. And yeah, I’m in one of the cities you listed and mls is boring here

And this right here is why I decided to boycott this World Cup. Clearly, I didn’t know that this would happen, but I had a suspicion something like this might happen. Allowing Ronaldo to play by removing his 2 game suspension was bullshit, but this is doing a cannonball into the crazy end of the pool.

And FIFA even had a non-crazy way to handle this, which is the stupid part. All they had to do was say that VAR didn’t follow the proper protocols, so the Red Card was lifted. Nope. They just embraced the crazy.
