But it’s not communist. There are parallels, of course. It is, technically, classless, stateless, and moneyless. But there is still a Central government. There is still private ownership. Picard’s family owns land. They’re not given land by the community. There’s no community control of resources because any resources a person may want are readily available to all.
It is a post-scarcity^1 quasi-socialist^2 utopian^3 representative parliamentary democracy^4.
- There is no need for money, bartering, or employment. Replicators and energy are abundant and can fill any physical need.
- There is no economy for the collective community to own, but social equity is valued and maintained
- There is no poverty, war, exploitation, or abuse of power. All people live in peace, equality, and self-fulfillment
- There is a world government that has elected members of parliament, and that government represents the inhabitants of Earth and their interests within the United Federation of Planets, a federal representative republic.
