To start, the billions, if not trillions, of dollars generated by this fund would provide direct payments to the American people. And as the fund generates more and more wealth, the proceeds would be used to ensure that every man, woman and child in our country has a decent and dignified standard of living, including health care, education and housing.

Considering that growing wealth inequality is looking to doom us all, plans for actual redistribution like this are sorely needed. That said, it’s important for the technology itself to become more open, and if everyone depends on these companies continuing to have enough of a moat to be profitable that’s kind of a conflict of interest; future legislation might favor enforcing centralized control of everyone’s AI use just because people are afraid of losing the income distributed from the partly nationalized companies. It’s already questionable whether they are going to be able to be viable in the long term even if the technology itself makes a huge impact, it’s so plausible to find alternatives to using their services.

Honestly I’d rather see something like this that applies to all publicly traded companies.
