…the country’s largest artificial intelligence companies.

I don’t want that. At all.

The “country’s largest artificial intelligence companies” are houses of cards built on hype. Buying the country into them is basically buying into a pyramid scheme so we all get left holding the bag when the bubble pops. It’s literally the opposite of what I’d want to be holding in the AI space.

    It’s a horrible idea.

If Bernie wants a sovereign wealth fund, we should mirror China, Europe, and other countries. Start an open weights LLM program, and publish the models for free, as a public utility to the United States. He can fund companies that are already pushing this, like Huggingface, Cerebras, Intel and such. Even Nvidia is pushing for that, though the message isn’t really being heard.

But OpenAI, XAI, and so on are all worthless in the long term. You could force them to contribute legal training data I guess, but that’s about it.

And it’s not hypothetical. China is already doing this, in a roundabout way, but extremely successfully.

Europe is close to working it out, too.
