So obviously from time to time you have to call some service (especially in australia where so many digital systems seem to break often, so you have to call customer service)
But how to deal with waiting on the phone?
The wait is sometimes up to 30 minutes, and it will play this horrendous music.
If I turn the volume down, I will forget I was calling or won’t notice quickly enough and the people will hang up before I can grab my phone.
If I keep the volume up, it’s so distracting that I can’t do anything else and I’m basically waiting for 30 minutes staring at my phone.
Anyone else that experiences this? How to deal with it?

I absolutely hate it. I get stuck in “waiting mode” because I have to be paying enough attention to the phone that I can’t do much else.
Effectively I either plan in wasting 30-60 minutes of my life for these calls, or I do my utmost to avoid them entirely. If there is an online support or email option, I will go with that first since I don’t have to be waiting and they can either phone me when they get to it or email me a reply.
Yeah exactly.
Usually I try online support first, but in some situations you get a person that doesn’t understand your question or doesn’t forward you to somebody with the right knowledge and you still spend way too much time on it. Calling would be better in that case, but it’s hard to know beforehand.
It also stresses me out that they have these chatboxes on websites, where (after trying to find the correct response to get a human) they will take 10-15 minutes to reply you, but then if you don’t reply within 2 minutes, they assume you are no longer there and close the chat. Why even?
