I feel like you and the meme are over estimating komodo dragons. It would probably maim you and infections could definitely kill you after but I feel like most adult humans, if in a life or death struggle, would come out on top.

Dude, they’re 300 pounds of pure lizard muscle, venomous, razor teeth, and have very powerful limbs with sharp claws… They sprint at 12mph and take down wild pigs in literal seconds on the regular. There’s no way. Like absolutely no. In a life or death struggle, most adult humans would end up disemboweled or missing a limb and then swallowed whole while still alive, like they do to boars and water buffalo.

It is a myth that they kill by biting and waiting for infection.

I get that. Maybe “most” is overstating it for humans as well. But I think you are forgetting choking the thing out. Saying its 10 feet long is misleading. There’s a lot of tail and average size is not 300lbs. That’s max. Average is like 150.

I think if you can avoid getting bit in the neck, you have a chance.

Stabbing something with sticks with your crew and proper plan and distance is a quite bit different than getting into a wrestling match with a comodo dragon

This is delusional. You couldn’t even take the boar or water buffallo in a fight unscathed that a komodo dragon kills and swallows whole for lunch.

Good luck choking out a lizard with a neck that’s probably as strong as your entire body…

Great, you try choking it. What is stopping it from shredding your arm to bits in two seconds while you try to find a decent grip?

A human with a pointy stick is a force to be reckoned with. Maybe if you didn’t see it coming?

It’d definitely hurt you, especially if it bit you, the resulting infection would be deadly. But I feel like that’s the only way a single komodo could kill you. Multiple ones or with the element of surprise would have a much higher chance of course.

After sleeping on it, you’re probably right. However for context a human is roughly 200lbs of muscle and can sprint 20mph. We lack effective claws but we can strategize and use tools.

What kind of prep do you think a human would need to take on a single komodo? I feel like a spear would be OP but even with a smallish blade and very light body armor I think you’d stand a good chance.

If there are multiple lizards or it surprises you is going to matter a lot. As well as the area you’re in, can you escape? This isn’t a gorilla or even a bear that can just run you down. It’s a roughly human sized lizard, which is definitely not something I want to fight but is also something that humans trap and kill.

If we’re allowed to use simple weapons/tools or escape I’m confident a human can win. However if we’re unarmed, or trapped in a place with it, we’re fucked.

When people say “I could take that in a fight”, I don’t interpret it as “I’m capable of running away from that”. Yeah, komodo dragon aren’t just slaughtering humans all the time, because we are way more capable of avoiding and outsmarting them in general.

A long spear changes the game. Allegedly komodo dragon skulls are not very strong, so a polehammer in practiced hands would probably be most ideal.

I imagine that once trapped, they are fed to make them safer to interact with. Does a dead pig or goat count as a simple tool?
